Radeon RX 5600 vs Radeon RX 6700 XT

Intro

The Radeon RX 5600 makes use of a 7 nm design. AMD has clocked the core frequency at 1375 MHz. The GDDR6 RAM is set to run at a frequency of 1500 MHz on this specific card. It features 2048 SPUs along with 128 Texture Address Units and 64 ROPs.

Compare those specs to the Radeon RX 6700 XT, which features clock speeds of 2321 MHz on the GPU, and 2000 MHz on the (Unknown) MB of GDDR6 memory. It features 2560 SPUs as well as 160 Texture Address Units and 64 Rasterization Operator Units.

Radeon RX 6700 XT 230 Watts
Difference: 80 Watts (53%)

Memory Bandwidth

The Radeon RX 6700 XT should theoretically be a lot faster than the Radeon RX 5600 overall. (explain)

Radeon RX 6700 XT 393216 MB/sec
Radeon RX 5600 294912 MB/sec
Difference: 98304 (33%)

Texel Rate

The Radeon RX 6700 XT should be a lot (about 111%) faster with regards to anisotropic filtering than the Radeon RX 5600. (explain)

Radeon RX 6700 XT 371360 Mtexels/sec
Radeon RX 5600 176000 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 195360 (111%)

Pixel Rate

If running with high levels of AA is important to you, then the Radeon RX 6700 XT is superior to the Radeon RX 5600, by a large margin. (explain)

Radeon RX 6700 XT 148544 Mpixels/sec
Radeon RX 5600 88000 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 60544 (69%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Memory bandwidth is the maximum amount of information (counted in MB per second) that can be transported across the external memory interface in a second. The number is calculated by multiplying the card's bus width by its memory clock speed. If the card has DDR memory, it should be multiplied by 2 again. If DDR5, multiply by 4 instead. The higher the bandwidth is, the faster the card will be in general. It especially helps with anti-aliasing, HDR and higher screen resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum amount of texture map elements (texels) that are applied in one second. This is worked out by multiplying the total texture units of the card by the core speed of the chip. The higher the texel rate, the better the graphics card will be at texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels in a second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the most pixels that the graphics chip can possibly write to its local memory in one second - measured in millions of pixels per second. Pixel rate is worked out by multiplying the number of Render Output Units by the the card's clock speed. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - also sometimes called Render Output Units) are responsible for filling the screen with pixels (the image). The actual pixel fill rate is also dependant on quite a few other factors, most notably the memory bandwidth of the card - the lower the memory bandwidth is, the lower the ability to get to the max fill rate.
