GeForce RTX 3080 Ti vs Radeon RX 7900 XTX

Intro

The GeForce RTX 3080 Ti has a GPU clock speed of 1365 MHz, and the 12288 MB of GDDR6X memory runs at 1188 MHz through a 384-bit bus. It also features 10240 Stream Processors, 320 Texture Address Units, and 112 ROPs.

Compare those specifications to the Radeon RX 7900 XTX, which comes with a clock frequency of 1855 MHz and a GDDR6 memory frequency of 2500 MHz. It also uses a 384-bit memory bus, and uses a 5 nm design. It is comprised of 6144 SPUs, 384 TAUs, and 192 ROPs.

GeForce RTX 3080 Ti 934297 MB/sec
Difference: 48743 (5%)

Texel Rate

The Radeon RX 7900 XTX is much (more or less 63%) faster with regards to AF than the GeForce RTX 3080 Ti. (explain)

Radeon RX 7900 XTX 712320 Mtexels/sec
GeForce RTX 3080 Ti 436800 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 275520 (63%)

Pixel Rate

If using a high resolution is important to you, then the Radeon RX 7900 XTX is a better choice, by a large margin. (explain)

Radeon RX 7900 XTX 356160 Mpixels/sec
GeForce RTX 3080 Ti 152880 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 203280 (133%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Bandwidth is the max amount of data (counted in MB per second) that can be transferred past the external memory interface in one second. The number is worked out by multiplying the bus width by the speed of its memory. In the case of DDR RAM, it must be multiplied by 2 once again. If it uses DDR5, multiply by 4 instead. The higher the memory bandwidth, the better the card will be in general. It especially helps with anti-aliasing, HDR and high resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum amount of texture map elements (texels) that can be processed in one second. This number is worked out by multiplying the total number of texture units by the core clock speed of the chip. The higher the texel rate, the better the graphics card will be at handling texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels in one second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum amount of pixels the graphics card could possibly write to the local memory in one second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The figure is worked out by multiplying the number of colour ROPs by the the core clock speed. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - sometimes also referred to as Render Output Units) are responsible for drawing the pixels (image) on the screen. The actual pixel fill rate also depends on many other factors, especially the memory bandwidth - the lower the memory bandwidth is, the lower the ability to reach the maximum fill rate.
