GeForce RTX 4070 Ti vs Radeon RX 6900 XT

Intro

The GeForce RTX 4070 Ti has core clock speeds of 2310 MHz on the GPU, and 1313 MHz on the 12288 MB of GDDR6X RAM. It features 7680 SPUs as well as 240 Texture Address Units and 80 ROPs.

Compare all of that to the Radeon RX 6900 XT, which comes with core clock speeds of 1825 MHz on the GPU, and 2000 MHz on the 16384 MB of GDDR6 RAM. It features 5120 SPUs along with 320 Texture Address Units and 128 Rasterization Operator Units.

Power Usage and Theoretical Benchmarks

Power Consumption (Max TDP)

GeForce RTX 4070 Ti 285 Watts
Radeon RX 6900 XT 300 Watts
Difference: 15 Watts (5%)

Memory Bandwidth

Theoretically speaking, the Radeon RX 6900 XT is 2% quicker than the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti overall, due to its greater data rate. (explain)

Radeon RX 6900 XT 524288 MB/sec
GeForce RTX 4070 Ti 516096 MB/sec
Difference: 8192 (2%)

Texel Rate

The Radeon RX 6900 XT should be a small bit (approximately 5%) better at anisotropic filtering than the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti. (explain)

Radeon RX 6900 XT 584000 Mtexels/sec
GeForce RTX 4070 Ti 554400 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 29600 (5%)

Pixel Rate

The Radeon RX 6900 XT should be much (more or less 26%) better at FSAA than the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti, and also should be able to handle higher resolutions better. (explain)

Radeon RX 6900 XT 233600 Mpixels/sec
GeForce RTX 4070 Ti 184800 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 48800 (26%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Bandwidth is the max amount of information (counted in MB per second) that can be transferred over the external memory interface in a second. The number is worked out by multiplying the bus width by the speed of its memory. If the card has DDR type RAM, it should be multiplied by 2 again. If it uses DDR5, multiply by 4 instead. The better the card's memory bandwidth, the faster the card will be in general. It especially helps with AA, High Dynamic Range and higher screen resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum texture map elements (texels) that are applied in one second. This number is worked out by multiplying the total texture units by the core speed of the chip. The higher this number, the better the video card will be at texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels in a second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum amount of pixels that the graphics chip can possibly record to the local memory in one second - measured in millions of pixels per second. Pixel rate is calculated by multiplying the number of Raster Operations Pipelines by the the card's clock speed. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - aka Render Output Units) are responsible for drawing the pixels (image) on the screen. The actual pixel rate is also dependant on quite a few other factors, most notably the memory bandwidth of the card - the lower the memory bandwidth is, the lower the ability to get to the maximum fill rate.
