GeForce RTX 3060 Ti vs Radeon RX 7900 XTX

Intro

The GeForce RTX 3060 Ti uses a 8 nm design. nVidia has set the core speed at 1410 MHz. The GDDR6 RAM is set to run at a speed of 1750 MHz on this card. It features 4864 SPUs along with 152 Texture Address Units and 80 Rasterization Operator Units.

Compare those specs to the Radeon RX 7900 XTX, which comes with a GPU core clock speed of 1855 MHz, and 24576 MB of GDDR6 memory running at 2500 MHz through a 384-bit bus. It also is comprised of 6144 SPUs, 384 TAUs, and 192 Raster Operation Units.

Power Usage and Theoretical Benchmarks

Power Consumption (Max TDP)

GeForce RTX 3060 Ti 200 Watts
Radeon RX 7900 XTX 355 Watts
Difference: 155 Watts (78%)

Memory Bandwidth

Theoretically, the Radeon RX 7900 XTX should be a small bit faster than the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti in general. (explain)

Radeon RX 7900 XTX 983040 MB/sec
GeForce RTX 3060 Ti (Unknown) MB/sec
Difference: 983040 (-100%)

Texel Rate

The Radeon RX 7900 XTX is a lot (approximately 232%) faster with regards to anisotropic filtering than the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti. (explain)

Radeon RX 7900 XTX 712320 Mtexels/sec
GeForce RTX 3060 Ti 214320 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 498000 (232%)

Pixel Rate

If running with a high resolution is important to you, then the Radeon RX 7900 XTX is a better choice, and very much so. (explain)

Radeon RX 7900 XTX 356160 Mpixels/sec
GeForce RTX 3060 Ti 112800 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 243360 (216%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Bandwidth is the maximum amount of data (measured in MB per second) that can be transferred past the external memory interface in one second. The number is worked out by multiplying the card's bus width by the speed of its memory. If it uses DDR type memory, the result should be multiplied by 2 once again. If DDR5, multiply by ANOTHER 2x. The better the card's memory bandwidth, the faster the card will be in general. It especially helps with AA, HDR and high resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum texture map elements (texels) that can be applied per second. This figure is worked out by multiplying the total amount of texture units by the core clock speed of the chip. The higher the texel rate, the better the video card will be at handling texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels applied per second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the most pixels that the graphics card can possibly write to its local memory in a second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The figure is calculated by multiplying the number of Render Output Units by the the core speed of the card. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - also called Render Output Units) are responsible for filling the screen with pixels (the image). The actual pixel fill rate is also dependant on many other factors, especially the memory bandwidth of the card - the lower the memory bandwidth is, the lower the ability to get to the max fill rate.
