GeForce GTX 960 vs GeForce GTX 980 Ti

Intro

The GeForce GTX 960 comes with a clock frequency of 1127 MHz and a GDDR5 memory speed of 1750 MHz. It also uses a 128-bit bus, and uses a 28 nm design. It features 1024 SPUs, 64 TAUs, and 32 Raster Operation Units.

Compare all of that to the GeForce GTX 980 Ti, which features a GPU core clock speed of 1000 MHz, and 6144 MB of GDDR5 RAM running at 1750 MHz through a 384-bit bus. It also features 2816 Stream Processors, 176 TAUs, and 96 ROPs.

Memory Bandwidth: Bandwidth is the maximum amount of data (counted in megabytes per second) that can be moved over the external memory interface in one second. It's calculated by multiplying the interface width by the speed of its memory. If it uses DDR type memory, the result should be multiplied by 2 once again. If DDR5, multiply by 4 instead. The better the memory bandwidth, the faster the card will be in general. It especially helps with anti-aliasing, HDR and higher screen resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum texture map elements (texels) that can be applied per second. This is worked out by multiplying the total number of texture units by the core speed of the chip. The higher the texel rate, the better the video card will be at handling texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels applied in one second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum amount of pixels the graphics card can possibly write to the local memory in a second - measured in millions of pixels per second. Pixel rate is calculated by multiplying the amount of Raster Operations Pipelines by the the core clock speed. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - aka Render Output Units) are responsible for drawing the pixels (image) on the screen. The actual pixel fill rate also depends on quite a few other factors, most notably the memory bandwidth of the card - the lower the memory bandwidth is, the lower the potential to get to the max fill rate.
