Compare any two graphics cards:
GeForce GTX 460 1GB vs GeForce GTX 550 Ti
IntroThe GeForce GTX 460 1GB has a GPU clock speed of 675 MHz, and the 1024 MB of GDDR5 memory is set to run at 900 MHz through a 256-bit bus. It also is made up of 336 SPUs, 56 TAUs, and 32 Raster Operation Units.Compare that to the GeForce GTX 550 Ti, which uses a 40 nm design. nVidia has clocked the core speed at 900 MHz. The GDDR5 RAM is set to run at a frequency of 1026 MHz on this specific card. It features 192 SPUs as well as 32 Texture Address Units and 24 ROPs.

Power Usage and Theoretical BenchmarksPower Consumption (Max TDP)
Memory BandwidthTheoretically speaking, the GeForce GTX 460 1GB will be 17% quicker than the GeForce GTX 550 Ti in general, due to its greater bandwidth. (explain)
Texel RateThe GeForce GTX 460 1GB will be a lot (more or less 31%) more effective at anisotropic filtering than the GeForce GTX 550 Ti. (explain)
Pixel RateBoth cards have exactly the same pixel rate, so in theory they should perform equally good at at full screen anti-aliasing, and be able to handle the same screen resolutions. (explain)
Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit. Price Comparison

Memory Bandwidth: Bandwidth is the max amount of data (counted in MB per second) that can be transferred past the external memory interface in one second. It's calculated by multiplying the card's bus width by its memory clock speed. In the case of DDR memory, the result should be multiplied by 2 again. If DDR5, multiply by 4 instead. The better the bandwidth is, the faster the card will be in general. It especially helps with anti-aliasing, HDR and higher screen resolutions. Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum amount of texture map elements (texels) that can be processed in one second. This number is calculated by multiplying the total number of texture units of the card by the core clock speed of the chip. The higher this number, the better the card will be at handling texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels per second. Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum number of pixels that the graphics card can possibly record to its local memory in a second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The figure is worked out by multiplying the number of colour ROPs by the the core clock speed. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - also sometimes called Render Output Units) are responsible for drawing the pixels (image) on the screen. The actual pixel output rate is also dependant on quite a few other factors, most notably the memory bandwidth - the lower the bandwidth is, the lower the potential to get to the max fill rate.
