GeForce GT 210 vs Radeon HD 6850

Intro

The GeForce GT 210 comes with a core clock frequency of 589 MHz and a DDR3 memory frequency of 800 MHz. It also uses a 64-bit memory bus, and makes use of a 40 nm design. It is comprised of 16 SPUs, 8 TAUs, and 4 Raster Operation Units.

Compare those specifications to the Radeon HD 6850, which features clock speeds of 775 MHz on the GPU, and 1000 MHz on the 1024 MB of GDDR5 RAM. It features 960 SPUs along with 48 TAUs and 32 Rasterization Operator Units.

GeForce GT 210 31 Watts
Radeon HD 6850 127 Watts
Difference: 96 Watts (310%)

Memory Bandwidth

The Radeon HD 6850 should in theory perform much faster than the GeForce GT 210 overall. (explain)

Radeon HD 6850 128000 MB/sec
GeForce GT 210 12800 MB/sec
Difference: 115200 (900%)

Texel Rate

The Radeon HD 6850 is a lot (about 689%) better at AF than the GeForce GT 210. (explain)

Radeon HD 6850 37200 Mtexels/sec
GeForce GT 210 4712 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 32488 (689%)

Pixel Rate

If using a high resolution is important to you, then the Radeon HD 6850 is a better choice, by a large margin. (explain)

Radeon HD 6850 24800 Mpixels/sec
GeForce GT 210 2356 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 22444 (953%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Memory bandwidth is the max amount of data (measured in megabytes per second) that can be moved over the external memory interface in a second. It is worked out by multiplying the card's bus width by the speed of its memory. If the card has DDR RAM, the result should be multiplied by 2 again. If it uses DDR5, multiply by ANOTHER 2x. The better the bandwidth is, the faster the card will be in general. It especially helps with anti-aliasing, High Dynamic Range and higher screen resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum texture map elements (texels) that are processed in one second. This number is calculated by multiplying the total number of texture units of the card by the core speed of the chip. The higher this number, the better the video card will be at handling texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels in a second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the most pixels that the graphics card could possibly record to the local memory in one second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The figure is calculated by multiplying the number of colour ROPs by the the core clock speed. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - also called Render Output Units) are responsible for outputting the pixels (image) to the screen. The actual pixel fill rate is also dependant on quite a few other factors, most notably the memory bandwidth - the lower the bandwidth is, the lower the potential to get to the maximum fill rate.
