GeForce GT 130 vs Radeon RX 460 2GB

Intro

The GeForce GT 130 features a GPU core speed of 500 MHz, and the 768 MB of DDR2 memory is set to run at 250 MHz through a 192-bit bus. It also is comprised of 48 Stream Processors, 24 TAUs, and 16 ROPs.

Compare those specifications to the Radeon RX 460 2GB, which has core clock speeds of 1090 MHz on the GPU, and 1750 MHz on the 2048 MB of GDDR5 memory. It features 896 SPUs as well as 56 Texture Address Units and 16 ROPs.

Power Usage and Theoretical Benchmarks

Both cards have the same power consumption.

Memory Bandwidth

In theory, the Radeon RX 460 2GB is 833% quicker than the GeForce GT 130 in general, because of its higher data rate. (explain)

Radeon RX 460 2GB 112000 MB/sec
GeForce GT 130 12000 MB/sec
Difference: 100000 (833%)

Texel Rate

The Radeon RX 460 2GB is much (about 409%) better at anisotropic filtering than the GeForce GT 130. (explain)

Radeon RX 460 2GB 61040 Mtexels/sec
GeForce GT 130 12000 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 49040 (409%)

Pixel Rate

The Radeon RX 460 2GB will be quite a bit (more or less 118%) faster with regards to FSAA than the GeForce GT 130, and should be capable of handling higher resolutions while still performing well. (explain)

Radeon RX 460 2GB 17440 Mpixels/sec
GeForce GT 130 8000 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 9440 (118%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Bandwidth is the largest amount of data (in units of megabytes per second) that can be transported across the external memory interface in a second. It is calculated by multiplying the card's bus width by the speed of its memory. If the card has DDR RAM, the result should be multiplied by 2 again. If it uses DDR5, multiply by ANOTHER 2x. The higher the bandwidth is, the better the card will be in general. It especially helps with anti-aliasing, HDR and high resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum texture map elements (texels) that can be processed in one second. This is calculated by multiplying the total texture units of the card by the core speed of the chip. The higher this number, the better the card will be at handling texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels processed in a second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum amount of pixels that the graphics card could possibly write to its local memory in a second - measured in millions of pixels per second. Pixel rate is worked out by multiplying the amount of Raster Operations Pipelines by the the core speed of the card. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - sometimes also referred to as Render Output Units) are responsible for outputting the pixels (image) to the screen. The actual pixel rate also depends on many other factors, most notably the memory bandwidth - the lower the memory bandwidth is, the lower the ability to get to the maximum fill rate.
