GeForce GT 440 1.5GB vs Nvidia Titan X

Intro

The GeForce GT 440 1.5GB features core clock speeds of 594 MHz on the GPU, and 900 MHz on the 1536 MB of GDDR3 RAM. It features 144 SPUs as well as 24 Texture Address Units and 24 ROPs.

Compare those specs to the Nvidia Titan X, which makes use of a 16 nm design. nVidia has set the core speed at 1417 MHz. The GDDR5X RAM runs at a frequency of 1251 MHz on this card. It features 3584 SPUs as well as 224 TAUs and 96 Rasterization Operator Units.

Nvidia Titan X 250 Watts
Difference: 194 Watts (346%)

Memory Bandwidth

The Nvidia Titan X should theoretically perform much faster than the GeForce GT 440 1.5GB in general. (explain)

Nvidia Titan X 491520 MB/sec
GeForce GT 440 1.5GB 43200 MB/sec
Difference: 448320 (1038%)

Texel Rate

The Nvidia Titan X should be much (about 2126%) better at anisotropic filtering than the GeForce GT 440 1.5GB. (explain)

Nvidia Titan X 317408 Mtexels/sec
GeForce GT 440 1.5GB 14256 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 303152 (2126%)

Pixel Rate

If using lots of anti-aliasing is important to you, then the Nvidia Titan X is superior to the GeForce GT 440 1.5GB, and very much so. (explain)

Nvidia Titan X 136032 Mpixels/sec
GeForce GT 440 1.5GB 14256 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 121776 (854%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Bandwidth is the max amount of information (in units of MB per second) that can be transported over the external memory interface in one second. The number is calculated by multiplying the bus width by the speed of its memory. In the case of DDR type memory, the result should be multiplied by 2 again. If DDR5, multiply by 4 instead. The higher the bandwidth is, the better the card will be in general. It especially helps with AA, High Dynamic Range and high resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum texture map elements (texels) that can be processed per second. This number is calculated by multiplying the total texture units of the card by the core speed of the chip. The better this number, the better the video card will be at handling texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels applied in a second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the most pixels that the graphics chip can possibly record to the local memory in a second - measured in millions of pixels per second. Pixel rate is worked out by multiplying the number of ROPs by the the core clock speed. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - sometimes also referred to as Render Output Units) are responsible for filling the screen with pixels (the image). The actual pixel rate is also dependant on quite a few other factors, especially the memory bandwidth - the lower the memory bandwidth is, the lower the potential to get to the max fill rate.
