Radeon HD 7950 3GB vs Radeon R7 M360

Intro

The Radeon HD 7950 3GB has a GPU core clock speed of 800 MHz, and the 3072 MB of GDDR5 RAM runs at 1250 MHz through a 384-bit bus. It also is made up of 1792 Stream Processors, 112 TAUs, and 32 ROPs.

Compare all of that to the Radeon R7 M360, which comes with a clock speed of 1125 MHz and a DDR3 memory frequency of 1000 MHz. It also features a 64-bit memory bus, and makes use of a 28 nm design. It features 384 SPUs, 24 Texture Address Units, and 8 Raster Operation Units.

Power Usage and Theoretical Benchmarks

Memory Bandwidth

Theoretically, the Radeon HD 7950 3GB should be much faster than the Radeon R7 M360 in general. (explain)

Radeon HD 7950 3GB 240000 MB/sec
Radeon R7 M360 16000 MB/sec
Difference: 224000 (1400%)

Texel Rate

The Radeon HD 7950 3GB is much (more or less 232%) faster with regards to texture filtering than the Radeon R7 M360. (explain)

Radeon HD 7950 3GB 89600 Mtexels/sec
Radeon R7 M360 27000 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 62600 (232%)

Pixel Rate

If using high levels of AA is important to you, then the Radeon HD 7950 3GB is superior to the Radeon R7 M360, and very much so. (explain)

Radeon HD 7950 3GB 25600 Mpixels/sec
Radeon R7 M360 9000 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 16600 (184%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Memory bandwidth is the max amount of information (counted in MB per second) that can be transferred past the external memory interface in one second. It's calculated by multiplying the interface width by the speed of its memory. If the card has DDR memory, it should be multiplied by 2 again. If it uses DDR5, multiply by 4 instead. The higher the memory bandwidth, the faster the card will be in general. It especially helps with AA, HDR and higher screen resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum texture map elements (texels) that can be processed in one second. This number is worked out by multiplying the total texture units of the card by the core speed of the chip. The higher this number, the better the graphics card will be at texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels processed in one second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum amount of pixels the graphics card could possibly record to its local memory in a second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The figure is calculated by multiplying the amount of colour ROPs by the the core speed of the card. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - also called Render Output Units) are responsible for outputting the pixels (image) to the screen. The actual pixel rate is also dependant on lots of other factors, especially the memory bandwidth of the card - the lower the bandwidth is, the lower the ability to reach the maximum fill rate.
