Radeon HD 4890 2GB vs Radeon R5 M330

Intro

The Radeon HD 4890 2GB comes with a GPU core clock speed of 1000 MHz, and the 2048 MB of GDDR5 memory runs at 975 MHz through a 256-bit bus. It also is comprised of 800(160x5) SPUs, 40 Texture Address Units, and 16 Raster Operation Units.

Compare that to the Radeon R5 M330, which features clock speeds of 1030 MHz on the GPU, and 900 MHz on the 2048 MB of DDR3 memory. It features 320 SPUs along with 20 Texture Address Units and 8 Rasterization Operator Units.

Power Usage and Theoretical Benchmarks

Memory Bandwidth

Theoretically speaking, the Radeon HD 4890 2GB should be 767% quicker than the Radeon R5 M330 overall, due to its greater data rate. (explain)

Radeon HD 4890 2GB 124800 MB/sec
Radeon R5 M330 14400 MB/sec
Difference: 110400 (767%)

Texel Rate

The Radeon HD 4890 2GB is much (approximately 94%) more effective at anisotropic filtering than the Radeon R5 M330. (explain)

Radeon HD 4890 2GB 40000 Mtexels/sec
Radeon R5 M330 20600 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 19400 (94%)

Pixel Rate

The Radeon HD 4890 2GB should be a lot (about 94%) better at AA than the Radeon R5 M330, and also should be able to handle higher resolutions while still performing well. (explain)

Radeon HD 4890 2GB 16000 Mpixels/sec
Radeon R5 M330 8240 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 7760 (94%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Bandwidth is the max amount of information (measured in MB per second) that can be transported across the external memory interface within a second. The number is worked out by multiplying the bus width by its memory clock speed. If the card has DDR type memory, it should be multiplied by 2 again. If DDR5, multiply by 4 instead. The better the bandwidth is, the better the card will be in general. It especially helps with AA, HDR and high resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum number of texture map elements (texels) that are processed in one second. This number is calculated by multiplying the total texture units of the card by the core clock speed of the chip. The higher this number, the better the card will be at handling texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels applied in a second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum amount of pixels the graphics card could possibly record to the local memory in a second - measured in millions of pixels per second. Pixel rate is calculated by multiplying the number of Raster Operations Pipelines by the the core clock speed. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - aka Render Output Units) are responsible for filling the screen with pixels (the image). The actual pixel output rate also depends on quite a few other factors, most notably the memory bandwidth of the card - the lower the memory bandwidth is, the lower the potential to reach the max fill rate.
