Power Usage and Theoretical Benchmarks

Memory Bandwidth

In theory, the Radeon HD 7950 should be 233% quicker than the Radeon R9 M265X in general, due to its greater data rate. (explain)

Radeon HD 7950 240000 MB/sec
Radeon R9 M265X 72000 MB/sec
Difference: 168000 (233%)

Texel Rate

The Radeon HD 7950 is a lot (more or less 290%) better at AF than the Radeon R9 M265X. (explain)

Radeon HD 7950 89600 Mtexels/sec
Radeon R9 M265X 23000 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 66600 (290%)

Pixel Rate

The Radeon HD 7950 is much (about 178%) better at anti-aliasing than the Radeon R9 M265X, and should be capable of handling higher resolutions while still performing well. (explain)

Radeon HD 7950 25600 Mpixels/sec
Radeon R9 M265X 9200 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 16400 (178%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Bandwidth is the max amount of data (counted in megabytes per second) that can be moved over the external memory interface in a second. The number is calculated by multiplying the interface width by its memory clock speed. If the card has DDR RAM, it must be multiplied by 2 again. If DDR5, multiply by ANOTHER 2x. The higher the bandwidth is, the better the card will be in general. It especially helps with AA, High Dynamic Range and high resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum number of texture map elements (texels) that are processed per second. This is worked out by multiplying the total amount of texture units by the core clock speed of the chip. The higher the texel rate, the better the card will be at texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels processed in a second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the most pixels that the graphics chip can possibly record to the local memory in a second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The number is worked out by multiplying the number of Render Output Units by the clock speed of the card. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - sometimes also referred to as Render Output Units) are responsible for drawing the pixels (image) on the screen. The actual pixel rate also depends on quite a few other factors, most notably the memory bandwidth - the lower the memory bandwidth is, the lower the potential to reach the maximum fill rate.
