GeForce GTX 965M vs Radeon HD 6570 (OEM) 2GB

Intro

The GeForce GTX 965M features a core clock speed of 944 MHz and a GDDR5 memory speed of 1000 MHz. It also features a 128-bit memory bus, and uses a 28 nm design. It is made up of 1024 SPUs, 64 TAUs, and 32 ROPs.

Compare those specifications to the Radeon HD 6570 (OEM) 2GB, which features clock speeds of 650 MHz on the GPU, and 1000 MHz on the 1024 MB of GDDR5 RAM. It features 480 SPUs along with 24 TAUs and 8 Rasterization Operator Units.

Power Usage and Theoretical Benchmarks

Power Consumption (Max TDP)

Radeon HD 6570 (OEM) 2GB 50 Watts
GeForce GTX 965M 60 Watts
Difference: 10 Watts (20%)

Memory Bandwidth

Both cards have exactly the same memory bandwidth, so in theory they should have the same performance. (explain)

Texel Rate

The GeForce GTX 965M is quite a bit (more or less 287%) more effective at texture filtering than the Radeon HD 6570 (OEM) 2GB. (explain)

GeForce GTX 965M 60416 Mtexels/sec
Radeon HD 6570 (OEM) 2GB 15600 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 44816 (287%)

Pixel Rate

The GeForce GTX 965M is much (approximately 481%) more effective at full screen anti-aliasing than the Radeon HD 6570 (OEM) 2GB, and also capable of handling higher resolutions better. (explain)

GeForce GTX 965M 30208 Mpixels/sec
Radeon HD 6570 (OEM) 2GB 5200 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 25008 (481%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Bandwidth is the largest amount of data (in units of MB per second) that can be moved across the external memory interface in one second. The number is calculated by multiplying the bus width by the speed of its memory. If the card has DDR memory, it must be multiplied by 2 once again. If DDR5, multiply by ANOTHER 2x. The higher the bandwidth is, the faster the card will be in general. It especially helps with anti-aliasing, High Dynamic Range and high resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum texture map elements (texels) that can be processed in one second. This number is worked out by multiplying the total amount of texture units of the card by the core speed of the chip. The better the texel rate, the better the graphics card will be at texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels applied per second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the most pixels that the graphics card can possibly record to its local memory in one second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The figure is calculated by multiplying the amount of Raster Operations Pipelines by the the core clock speed. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - also called Render Output Units) are responsible for filling the screen with pixels (the image). The actual pixel output rate is also dependant on lots of other factors, especially the memory bandwidth - the lower the bandwidth is, the lower the potential to get to the maximum fill rate.
