GeForce GT 450 (OEM) vs GeForce GTX 660

Intro

The GeForce GT 450 (OEM) has a GPU core speed of 790 MHz, and the 1536 MB of GDDR5 RAM is set to run at 1000 MHz through a 192-bit bus. It also is made up of 144 Stream Processors, 24 TAUs, and 24 ROPs.

Compare that to the GeForce GTX 660, which has a GPU core clock speed of 980 MHz, and 2048 MB of GDDR5 memory running at 1502 MHz through a 192-bit bus. It also features 960 SPUs, 80 Texture Address Units, and 24 ROPs.

Difference: 34 Watts (32%)

Memory Bandwidth

As far as performance goes, the GeForce GTX 660 should in theory be much superior to the GeForce GT 450 (OEM) overall. (explain)

GeForce GTX 660 144192 MB/sec
GeForce GT 450 (OEM) 96000 MB/sec
Difference: 48192 (50%)

Texel Rate

The GeForce GTX 660 is a lot (more or less 314%) faster with regards to texture filtering than the GeForce GT 450 (OEM). (explain)

GeForce GTX 660 78400 Mtexels/sec
GeForce GT 450 (OEM) 18960 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 59440 (314%)

Pixel Rate

The GeForce GTX 660 should be a lot (more or less 24%) faster with regards to full screen anti-aliasing than the GeForce GT 450 (OEM), and able to handle higher resolutions without losing too much performance. (explain)

GeForce GTX 660 23520 Mpixels/sec
GeForce GT 450 (OEM) 18960 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 4560 (24%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Bandwidth is the largest amount of data (counted in megabytes per second) that can be moved past the external memory interface in one second. It's calculated by multiplying the interface width by its memory speed. If the card has DDR type RAM, it must be multiplied by 2 again. If DDR5, multiply by 4 instead. The better the bandwidth is, the better the card will be in general. It especially helps with AA, High Dynamic Range and high resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum amount of texture map elements (texels) that are applied in one second. This figure is calculated by multiplying the total number of texture units of the card by the core speed of the chip. The better this number, the better the video card will be at handling texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels processed in one second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum number of pixels the video card can possibly write to its local memory per second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The figure is calculated by multiplying the amount of Render Output Units by the the core clock speed. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - also called Render Output Units) are responsible for filling the screen with pixels (the image). The actual pixel fill rate is also dependant on quite a few other factors, most notably the memory bandwidth of the card - the lower the bandwidth is, the lower the potential to get to the maximum fill rate.
