Radeon HD 4830 1GB vs Radeon HD 6450 (OEM)

Intro

The Radeon HD 4830 1GB features a core clock speed of 575 MHz and a GDDR4 memory frequency of 900 MHz. It also uses a 256-bit bus, and makes use of a 55 nm design. It is made up of 640(128x5) SPUs, 32 Texture Address Units, and 16 ROPs.

Compare those specs to the Radeon HD 6450 (OEM), which has core clock speeds of 625 MHz on the GPU, and 800 MHz on the 512 MB of GDDR3 memory. It features 160 SPUs along with 8 Texture Address Units and 4 Rasterization Operator Units.

Radeon HD 4830 1GB 95 Watts
Difference: 64 Watts (206%)

Memory Bandwidth

In theory, the Radeon HD 4830 1GB should be a lot faster than the Radeon HD 6450 (OEM) in general. (explain)

Radeon HD 4830 1GB 57600 MB/sec
Radeon HD 6450 (OEM) 12800 MB/sec
Difference: 44800 (350%)

Texel Rate

The Radeon HD 4830 1GB is much (about 268%) more effective at texture filtering than the Radeon HD 6450 (OEM). (explain)

Radeon HD 4830 1GB 18400 Mtexels/sec
Radeon HD 6450 (OEM) 5000 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 13400 (268%)

Pixel Rate

The Radeon HD 4830 1GB should be quite a bit (approximately 268%) faster with regards to full screen anti-aliasing than the Radeon HD 6450 (OEM), and will be able to handle higher resolutions without losing too much performance. (explain)

Radeon HD 4830 1GB 9200 Mpixels/sec
Radeon HD 6450 (OEM) 2500 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 6700 (268%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Bandwidth is the largest amount of information (measured in megabytes per second) that can be transported over the external memory interface within a second. It's calculated by multiplying the card's interface width by its memory speed. If it uses DDR type RAM, it should be multiplied by 2 again. If it uses DDR5, multiply by 4 instead. The higher the memory bandwidth, the better the card will be in general. It especially helps with AA, High Dynamic Range and higher screen resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum texture map elements (texels) that can be processed per second. This figure is calculated by multiplying the total amount of texture units by the core clock speed of the chip. The higher this number, the better the card will be at handling texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels per second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum amount of pixels the video card could possibly write to its local memory in one second - measured in millions of pixels per second. Pixel rate is calculated by multiplying the amount of Raster Operations Pipelines by the the card's clock speed. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - also sometimes called Render Output Units) are responsible for outputting the pixels (image) to the screen. The actual pixel rate is also dependant on lots of other factors, most notably the memory bandwidth of the card - the lower the memory bandwidth is, the lower the potential to get to the max fill rate.
