Radeon HD 5750 512MB vs Radeon HD 6450 (OEM)

Intro

The Radeon HD 5750 512MB makes use of a 40 nm design. AMD has clocked the core frequency at 700 MHz. The GDDR5 RAM is set to run at a speed of 1150 MHz on this card. It features 720(144x5) SPUs as well as 36 Texture Address Units and 16 Rasterization Operator Units.

Compare those specifications to the Radeon HD 6450 (OEM), which features a core clock speed of 625 MHz and a GDDR3 memory speed of 800 MHz. It also makes use of a 64-bit bus, and makes use of a 40 nm design. It is made up of 160 SPUs, 8 TAUs, and 4 ROPs.

Radeon HD 6450 (OEM) 31 Watts
Radeon HD 5750 512MB 86 Watts
Difference: 55 Watts (177%)

Memory Bandwidth

As far as performance goes, the Radeon HD 5750 512MB should in theory be a lot better than the Radeon HD 6450 (OEM) overall. (explain)

Radeon HD 5750 512MB 73600 MB/sec
Radeon HD 6450 (OEM) 12800 MB/sec
Difference: 60800 (475%)

Texel Rate

The Radeon HD 5750 512MB is much (approximately 404%) faster with regards to AF than the Radeon HD 6450 (OEM). (explain)

Radeon HD 5750 512MB 25200 Mtexels/sec
Radeon HD 6450 (OEM) 5000 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 20200 (404%)

Pixel Rate

If running with a high resolution is important to you, then the Radeon HD 5750 512MB is the winner, and very much so. (explain)

Radeon HD 5750 512MB 11200 Mpixels/sec
Radeon HD 6450 (OEM) 2500 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 8700 (348%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Bandwidth is the max amount of data (measured in megabytes per second) that can be transported across the external memory interface in one second. It is worked out by multiplying the card's interface width by its memory clock speed. In the case of DDR type RAM, the result should be multiplied by 2 once again. If it uses DDR5, multiply by ANOTHER 2x. The higher the memory bandwidth, the faster the card will be in general. It especially helps with anti-aliasing, High Dynamic Range and higher screen resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum texture map elements (texels) that are processed in one second. This figure is calculated by multiplying the total amount of texture units by the core clock speed of the chip. The higher the texel rate, the better the video card will be at handling texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels processed in a second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum number of pixels the graphics card can possibly record to its local memory per second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The number is worked out by multiplying the amount of colour ROPs by the clock speed of the card. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - aka Render Output Units) are responsible for outputting the pixels (image) to the screen. The actual pixel fill rate is also dependant on many other factors, most notably the memory bandwidth - the lower the bandwidth is, the lower the ability to get to the maximum fill rate.
