GeForce RTX 4070 Ti vs Radeon RX 6800 XT

Intro

The GeForce RTX 4070 Ti features a GPU core clock speed of 2310 MHz, and the 12288 MB of GDDR6X RAM runs at 1313 MHz through a 192-bit bus. It also features 7680 Stream Processors, 240 Texture Address Units, and 80 Raster Operation Units.

Compare all of that to the Radeon RX 6800 XT, which comes with clock speeds of 1825 MHz on the GPU, and 2000 MHz on the 16384 MB of GDDR6 memory. It features 4608 SPUs as well as 288 TAUs and 128 ROPs.

GeForce RTX 4070 Ti 285 Watts
Radeon RX 6800 XT 300 Watts
Difference: 15 Watts (5%)

Memory Bandwidth

As far as performance goes, the Radeon RX 6800 XT should theoretically be just a bit better than the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti overall. (explain)

Radeon RX 6800 XT 524288 MB/sec
GeForce RTX 4070 Ti 516096 MB/sec
Difference: 8192 (2%)

Texel Rate

The GeForce RTX 4070 Ti is a small bit (more or less 5%) faster with regards to AF than the Radeon RX 6800 XT. (explain)

GeForce RTX 4070 Ti 554400 Mtexels/sec
Radeon RX 6800 XT 525600 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 28800 (5%)

Pixel Rate

If running with high levels of AA is important to you, then the Radeon RX 6800 XT is superior to the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti, by a large margin. (explain)

Radeon RX 6800 XT 233600 Mpixels/sec
GeForce RTX 4070 Ti 184800 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 48800 (26%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Memory bandwidth is the max amount of information (in units of megabytes per second) that can be transferred over the external memory interface in a second. The number is calculated by multiplying the card's bus width by its memory clock speed. If the card has DDR type RAM, the result should be multiplied by 2 once again. If DDR5, multiply by ANOTHER 2x. The higher the bandwidth is, the better the card will be in general. It especially helps with AA, High Dynamic Range and higher screen resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum amount of texture map elements (texels) that are processed in one second. This is worked out by multiplying the total number of texture units of the card by the core speed of the chip. The better this number, the better the video card will be at texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels processed in a second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum number of pixels that the graphics card could possibly record to the local memory in one second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The figure is calculated by multiplying the number of colour ROPs by the the card's clock speed. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - aka Render Output Units) are responsible for drawing the pixels (image) on the screen. The actual pixel rate is also dependant on lots of other factors, most notably the memory bandwidth of the card - the lower the bandwidth is, the lower the potential to reach the max fill rate.
