GeForce RTX 4070 Ti vs Radeon RX 6500 XT

Intro

The GeForce RTX 4070 Ti features core clock speeds of 2310 MHz on the GPU, and 1313 MHz on the 12288 MB of GDDR6X RAM. It features 7680 SPUs as well as 240 TAUs and 80 ROPs.

Compare that to the Radeon RX 6500 XT, which uses a 6 nm design. AMD has clocked the core frequency at 2200 MHz. The GDDR6 memory works at a frequency of 2250 MHz on this particular model. It features 1024 SPUs as well as 64 Texture Address Units and 32 ROPs.

Memory Bandwidth

The GeForce RTX 4070 Ti, in theory, should be a lot faster than the Radeon RX 6500 XT in general. (explain)

GeForce RTX 4070 Ti 516096 MB/sec
Radeon RX 6500 XT 147456 MB/sec
Difference: 368640 (250%)

Texel Rate

The GeForce RTX 4070 Ti will be a lot (more or less 294%) better at AF than the Radeon RX 6500 XT. (explain)

GeForce RTX 4070 Ti 554400 Mtexels/sec
Radeon RX 6500 XT 140800 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 413600 (294%)

Pixel Rate

The GeForce RTX 4070 Ti is a lot (approximately 163%) faster with regards to full screen anti-aliasing than the Radeon RX 6500 XT, and will be capable of handling higher resolutions without slowing down too much. (explain)

GeForce RTX 4070 Ti 184800 Mpixels/sec
Radeon RX 6500 XT 70400 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 114400 (163%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Memory bandwidth is the max amount of information (counted in MB per second) that can be transferred past the external memory interface in one second. It is worked out by multiplying the card's interface width by its memory clock speed. In the case of DDR RAM, the result should be multiplied by 2 again. If it uses DDR5, multiply by 4 instead. The higher the memory bandwidth, the better the card will be in general. It especially helps with anti-aliasing, HDR and high resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum texture map elements (texels) that can be applied per second. This figure is worked out by multiplying the total amount of texture units by the core speed of the chip. The better this number, the better the video card will be at texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels processed per second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the most pixels the video card can possibly record to the local memory in one second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The number is calculated by multiplying the number of Render Output Units by the the card's clock speed. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - also called Render Output Units) are responsible for drawing the pixels (image) on the screen. The actual pixel rate is also dependant on lots of other factors, especially the memory bandwidth of the card - the lower the memory bandwidth is, the lower the potential to get to the max fill rate.
