GeForce RTX 3060 Ti vs Radeon RX 7900 XT

Intro

The GeForce RTX 3060 Ti comes with core speeds of 1410 MHz on the GPU, and 1750 MHz on the 8192 MB of GDDR6 RAM. It features 4864 SPUs as well as 152 TAUs and 80 Rasterization Operator Units.

Compare all that to the Radeon RX 7900 XT, which has a core clock speed of 1500 MHz and a GDDR6 memory frequency of 2500 MHz. It also uses a 320-bit bus, and uses a 5 nm design. It is made up of 5376 SPUs, 336 TAUs, and 192 ROPs.

Performance-wise, the Radeon RX 7900 XT should theoretically be a small bit superior to the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti overall. (explain)

Radeon RX 7900 XT 819200 MB/sec
GeForce RTX 3060 Ti (Unknown) MB/sec
Difference: 819200 (-100%)

Texel Rate

The Radeon RX 7900 XT is much (approximately 135%) more effective at texture filtering than the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti. (explain)

Radeon RX 7900 XT 504000 Mtexels/sec
GeForce RTX 3060 Ti 214320 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 289680 (135%)

Pixel Rate

The Radeon RX 7900 XT is much (approximately 155%) faster with regards to FSAA than the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti, and capable of handling higher screen resolutions better. (explain)

Radeon RX 7900 XT 288000 Mpixels/sec
GeForce RTX 3060 Ti 112800 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 175200 (155%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Bandwidth is the max amount of information (measured in megabytes per second) that can be transferred across the external memory interface in a second. It's worked out by multiplying the card's bus width by its memory clock speed. If the card has DDR RAM, it must be multiplied by 2 again. If it uses DDR5, multiply by ANOTHER 2x. The better the memory bandwidth, the faster the card will be in general. It especially helps with AA, HDR and higher screen resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum amount of texture map elements (texels) that are applied per second. This number is worked out by multiplying the total number of texture units of the card by the core clock speed of the chip. The better the texel rate, the better the card will be at texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels in a second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum number of pixels that the graphics card could possibly record to its local memory per second - measured in millions of pixels per second. Pixel rate is calculated by multiplying the number of Raster Operations Pipelines by the clock speed of the card. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - also called Render Output Units) are responsible for outputting the pixels (image) to the screen. The actual pixel output rate is also dependant on lots of other factors, especially the memory bandwidth of the card - the lower the bandwidth is, the lower the ability to reach the maximum fill rate.
