GeForce RTX 4070 Ti vs Radeon RX 5600 XT

Intro

The GeForce RTX 4070 Ti features a GPU core clock speed of 2310 MHz, and the 12288 MB of GDDR6X memory is set to run at 1313 MHz through a 192-bit bus. It also is made up of 7680 Stream Processors, 240 TAUs, and 80 Raster Operation Units.

Compare all of that to the Radeon RX 5600 XT, which uses a 7 nm design. AMD has set the core speed at 1375 MHz. The GDDR6 RAM runs at a speed of 1500 MHz on this card. It features 2304 SPUs as well as 144 Texture Address Units and 64 ROPs.

Power Usage and Theoretical Benchmarks

Power Consumption (Max TDP)

Radeon RX 5600 XT 160 Watts
GeForce RTX 4070 Ti 285 Watts
Difference: 125 Watts (78%)

Memory Bandwidth

In theory, the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti is 50% quicker than the Radeon RX 5600 XT overall, due to its greater data rate. (explain)

GeForce RTX 4070 Ti 516096 MB/sec
Radeon RX 5600 XT 344064 MB/sec
Difference: 172032 (50%)

Texel Rate

The GeForce RTX 4070 Ti will be quite a bit (more or less 180%) better at texture filtering than the Radeon RX 5600 XT. (explain)

GeForce RTX 4070 Ti 554400 Mtexels/sec
Radeon RX 5600 XT 198000 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 356400 (180%)

Pixel Rate

If running with a high screen resolution is important to you, then the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti is the winner, by far. (explain)

GeForce RTX 4070 Ti 184800 Mpixels/sec
Radeon RX 5600 XT 88000 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 96800 (110%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Bandwidth is the max amount of information (in units of MB per second) that can be transported over the external memory interface in a second. The number is worked out by multiplying the interface width by its memory speed. If the card has DDR RAM, it should be multiplied by 2 again. If DDR5, multiply by 4 instead. The higher the memory bandwidth, the better the card will be in general. It especially helps with anti-aliasing, HDR and high resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum amount of texture map elements (texels) that are processed per second. This number is calculated by multiplying the total amount of texture units of the card by the core clock speed of the chip. The higher this number, the better the video card will be at handling texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels processed per second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum amount of pixels that the graphics chip can possibly record to the local memory in one second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The number is calculated by multiplying the amount of ROPs by the the core clock speed. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - also sometimes called Render Output Units) are responsible for outputting the pixels (image) to the screen. The actual pixel rate also depends on many other factors, most notably the memory bandwidth of the card - the lower the bandwidth is, the lower the ability to reach the maximum fill rate.
