GeForce RTX 4080 vs Radeon RX 6600

Intro

The GeForce RTX 4080 has a GPU core speed of 2205 MHz, and the 16384 MB of GDDR6X RAM is set to run at 1400 MHz through a 256-bit bus. It also is made up of 9728 SPUs, 304 Texture Address Units, and 112 ROPs.

Compare all that to the Radeon RX 6600, which has core clock speeds of 1626 MHz on the GPU, and 1750 MHz on the 8192 MB of GDDR6 RAM. It features 1792 SPUs along with 112 TAUs and 64 Rasterization Operator Units.

Memory Bandwidth

Theoretically speaking, the GeForce RTX 4080 should perform a lot faster than the Radeon RX 6600 in general. (explain)

GeForce RTX 4080 734003 MB/sec
Radeon RX 6600 229376 MB/sec
Difference: 504627 (220%)

Texel Rate

The GeForce RTX 4080 will be much (approximately 268%) faster with regards to texture filtering than the Radeon RX 6600. (explain)

GeForce RTX 4080 670320 Mtexels/sec
Radeon RX 6600 182112 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 488208 (268%)

Pixel Rate

If running with lots of anti-aliasing is important to you, then the GeForce RTX 4080 is superior to the Radeon RX 6600, by a large margin. (explain)

GeForce RTX 4080 246960 Mpixels/sec
Radeon RX 6600 104064 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 142896 (137%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Memory bandwidth is the maximum amount of information (counted in MB per second) that can be transported past the external memory interface in a second. It is calculated by multiplying the interface width by its memory speed. If it uses DDR type memory, the result should be multiplied by 2 again. If DDR5, multiply by 4 instead. The better the bandwidth is, the faster the card will be in general. It especially helps with AA, High Dynamic Range and high resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum number of texture map elements (texels) that can be applied per second. This is worked out by multiplying the total amount of texture units of the card by the core speed of the chip. The higher this number, the better the graphics card will be at handling texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels in a second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the most pixels that the graphics chip could possibly record to the local memory in one second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The figure is worked out by multiplying the amount of ROPs by the the core speed of the card. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - sometimes also referred to as Render Output Units) are responsible for filling the screen with pixels (the image). The actual pixel output rate is also dependant on lots of other factors, most notably the memory bandwidth - the lower the bandwidth is, the lower the ability to get to the max fill rate.
