Geforce GTX 780 vs Radeon RX 6750 XT

Intro

The Geforce GTX 780 features a GPU core speed of 863 MHz, and the 3072 MB of GDDR5 RAM runs at 1502 MHz through a 384-bit bus. It also is comprised of 2304 Stream Processors, 192 TAUs, and 48 Raster Operation Units.

Compare all that to the Radeon RX 6750 XT, which makes use of a 7 nm design. AMD has clocked the core speed at 2150 MHz. The GDDR6 memory is set to run at a frequency of 2250 MHz on this particular card. It features 2560 SPUs as well as 160 TAUs and 64 ROPs.

Power Usage and Theoretical Benchmarks

Both cards have the same power consumption.

Memory Bandwidth

Performance-wise, the Radeon RX 6750 XT should theoretically be quite a bit better than the Geforce GTX 780 overall. (explain)

Radeon RX 6750 XT 442368 MB/sec
Geforce GTX 780 288384 MB/sec
Difference: 153984 (53%)

Texel Rate

The Radeon RX 6750 XT is quite a bit (approximately 108%) faster with regards to texture filtering than the Geforce GTX 780. (explain)

Radeon RX 6750 XT 344000 Mtexels/sec
Geforce GTX 780 165696 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 178304 (108%)

Pixel Rate

The Radeon RX 6750 XT is much (more or less 232%) more effective at FSAA than the Geforce GTX 780, and able to handle higher screen resolutions more effectively. (explain)

Radeon RX 6750 XT 137600 Mpixels/sec
Geforce GTX 780 41424 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 96176 (232%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Memory bandwidth is the maximum amount of information (counted in MB per second) that can be transferred across the external memory interface within a second. The number is worked out by multiplying the card's bus width by its memory clock speed. In the case of DDR memory, the result should be multiplied by 2 once again. If it uses DDR5, multiply by 4 instead. The better the bandwidth is, the better the card will be in general. It especially helps with AA, HDR and higher screen resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum amount of texture map elements (texels) that are applied in one second. This number is worked out by multiplying the total texture units by the core speed of the chip. The better the texel rate, the better the video card will be at handling texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels applied in a second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum amount of pixels that the graphics card could possibly write to the local memory in a second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The figure is worked out by multiplying the amount of ROPs by the the card's clock speed. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - aka Render Output Units) are responsible for filling the screen with pixels (the image). The actual pixel rate also depends on many other factors, most notably the memory bandwidth of the card - the lower the bandwidth is, the lower the potential to get to the maximum fill rate.
