Geforce GTX 770 vs Radeon RX 6650 XT

Intro

The Geforce GTX 770 makes use of a 28 nm design. nVidia has clocked the core frequency at 1046 MHz. The GDDR5 memory is set to run at a frequency of 1753 MHz on this particular card. It features 1536 SPUs as well as 128 Texture Address Units and 32 ROPs.

Compare those specs to the Radeon RX 6650 XT, which has core speeds of 2055 MHz on the GPU, and 2190 MHz on the 8192 MB of GDDR6 RAM. It features 2048 SPUs along with 128 Texture Address Units and 64 ROPs.

Power Usage and Theoretical Benchmarks

Power Consumption (Max TDP)

Radeon RX 6650 XT 176 Watts
Geforce GTX 770 230 Watts
Difference: 54 Watts (31%)

Memory Bandwidth

The Radeon RX 6650 XT should in theory be a lot faster than the Geforce GTX 770 in general. (explain)

Radeon RX 6650 XT 287072 MB/sec
Geforce GTX 770 224384 MB/sec
Difference: 62688 (28%)

Texel Rate

The Radeon RX 6650 XT is quite a bit (about 96%) more effective at anisotropic filtering than the Geforce GTX 770. (explain)

Radeon RX 6650 XT 263040 Mtexels/sec
Geforce GTX 770 133888 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 129152 (96%)

Pixel Rate

If running with a high screen resolution is important to you, then the Radeon RX 6650 XT is the winner, by far. (explain)

Radeon RX 6650 XT 131520 Mpixels/sec
Geforce GTX 770 33472 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 98048 (293%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Bandwidth is the max amount of information (counted in megabytes per second) that can be transferred over the external memory interface in a second. The number is worked out by multiplying the card's interface width by the speed of its memory. In the case of DDR memory, it must be multiplied by 2 once again. If DDR5, multiply by ANOTHER 2x. The higher the card's memory bandwidth, the faster the card will be in general. It especially helps with anti-aliasing, High Dynamic Range and high resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum number of texture map elements (texels) that can be processed per second. This number is calculated by multiplying the total texture units of the card by the core clock speed of the chip. The better this number, the better the graphics card will be at handling texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels in one second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum amount of pixels the graphics card can possibly write to its local memory per second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The number is worked out by multiplying the amount of ROPs by the the core clock speed. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - aka Render Output Units) are responsible for filling the screen with pixels (the image). The actual pixel output rate also depends on many other factors, most notably the memory bandwidth of the card - the lower the memory bandwidth is, the lower the ability to get to the maximum fill rate.
