Power Usage and Theoretical Benchmarks

Memory Bandwidth

In theory, the GeForce RTX 3080 12 GB is 1198% faster than the Radeon R9 M270X in general, due to its higher data rate. (explain)

GeForce RTX 3080 12 GB 934298 MB/sec
Radeon R9 M270X 72000 MB/sec
Difference: 862298 (1198%)

Texel Rate

The GeForce RTX 3080 12 GB is much (approximately 1117%) more effective at texture filtering than the Radeon R9 M270X. (explain)

GeForce RTX 3080 12 GB 352800 Mtexels/sec
Radeon R9 M270X 29000 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 323800 (1117%)

Pixel Rate

The GeForce RTX 3080 12 GB is quite a bit (approximately 1117%) faster with regards to anti-aliasing than the Radeon R9 M270X, and should be capable of handling higher resolutions without slowing down too much. (explain)

GeForce RTX 3080 12 GB 141120 Mpixels/sec
Radeon R9 M270X 11600 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 129520 (1117%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Memory bandwidth is the maximum amount of data (measured in megabytes per second) that can be transferred across the external memory interface in a second. It's worked out by multiplying the bus width by its memory speed. If it uses DDR memory, it should be multiplied by 2 again. If it uses DDR5, multiply by ANOTHER 2x. The higher the bandwidth is, the better the card will be in general. It especially helps with AA, HDR and higher screen resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum number of texture map elements (texels) that are applied in one second. This is worked out by multiplying the total number of texture units of the card by the core speed of the chip. The higher the texel rate, the better the graphics card will be at handling texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels per second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the most pixels the video card could possibly record to the local memory per second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The number is worked out by multiplying the amount of Render Output Units by the the card's clock speed. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - sometimes also referred to as Render Output Units) are responsible for drawing the pixels (image) on the screen. The actual pixel rate also depends on quite a few other factors, especially the memory bandwidth - the lower the bandwidth is, the lower the potential to reach the maximum fill rate.
