GeForce GTX 1660 Ti vs Radeon RX 6500 XT

Intro

The GeForce GTX 1660 Ti makes use of a 12 nm design. nVidia has clocked the core speed at 1500 MHz. The GDDR6 RAM runs at a speed of 1500 MHz on this specific card. It features 1536 SPUs as well as 96 Texture Address Units and 48 Rasterization Operator Units.

Compare all of that to the Radeon RX 6500 XT, which comes with core clock speeds of 2200 MHz on the GPU, and 2250 MHz on the 4096 MB of GDDR6 memory. It features 1024 SPUs as well as 64 TAUs and 32 ROPs.

Power Usage and Theoretical Benchmarks

Power Consumption (Max TDP)

Radeon RX 6500 XT 107 Watts
GeForce GTX 1660 Ti 120 Watts
Difference: 13 Watts (12%)

Memory Bandwidth

The GeForce GTX 1660 Ti, in theory, should perform much faster than the Radeon RX 6500 XT in general. (explain)

GeForce GTX 1660 Ti 294912 MB/sec
Radeon RX 6500 XT 147456 MB/sec
Difference: 147456 (100%)

Texel Rate

The GeForce GTX 1660 Ti is just a bit (more or less 2%) more effective at anisotropic filtering than the Radeon RX 6500 XT. (explain)

GeForce GTX 1660 Ti 144000 Mtexels/sec
Radeon RX 6500 XT 140800 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 3200 (2%)

Pixel Rate

The GeForce GTX 1660 Ti should be a bit (more or less 2%) better at FSAA than the Radeon RX 6500 XT, and also should be capable of handling higher screen resolutions more effectively. (explain)

GeForce GTX 1660 Ti 72000 Mpixels/sec
Radeon RX 6500 XT 70400 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 1600 (2%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Memory bandwidth is the maximum amount of data (in units of MB per second) that can be transferred over the external memory interface in a second. It is worked out by multiplying the interface width by its memory clock speed. If the card has DDR type memory, the result should be multiplied by 2 again. If it uses DDR5, multiply by ANOTHER 2x. The higher the card's memory bandwidth, the faster the card will be in general. It especially helps with AA, HDR and high resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum texture map elements (texels) that are processed in one second. This figure is worked out by multiplying the total texture units of the card by the core speed of the chip. The better this number, the better the card will be at texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels applied in a second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum amount of pixels the graphics card can possibly record to its local memory in one second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The number is worked out by multiplying the amount of ROPs by the clock speed of the card. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - sometimes also referred to as Render Output Units) are responsible for outputting the pixels (image) to the screen. The actual pixel output rate is also dependant on many other factors, especially the memory bandwidth - the lower the memory bandwidth is, the lower the ability to get to the max fill rate.
