GeForce GTX 550 Ti vs Radeon RX 6600 XT

Intro

The GeForce GTX 550 Ti uses a 40 nm design. nVidia has set the core frequency at 900 MHz. The GDDR5 memory is set to run at a speed of 1026 MHz on this specific card. It features 192 SPUs as well as 32 TAUs and 24 ROPs.

Compare those specifications to the Radeon RX 6600 XT, which has a GPU core clock speed of 1968 MHz, and 8192 MB of GDDR6 RAM set to run at 2000 MHz through a 128-bit bus. It also is made up of 2048 Stream Processors, 128 Texture Address Units, and 64 ROPs.

Power Usage and Theoretical Benchmarks

Power Consumption (Max TDP)

GeForce GTX 550 Ti 116 Watts
Radeon RX 6600 XT 160 Watts
Difference: 44 Watts (38%)

Memory Bandwidth

Theoretically, the Radeon RX 6600 XT should perform a lot faster than the GeForce GTX 550 Ti in general. (explain)

Radeon RX 6600 XT 262144 MB/sec
GeForce GTX 550 Ti 98496 MB/sec
Difference: 163648 (166%)

Texel Rate

The Radeon RX 6600 XT is quite a bit (more or less 775%) better at texture filtering than the GeForce GTX 550 Ti. (explain)

Radeon RX 6600 XT 251904 Mtexels/sec
GeForce GTX 550 Ti 28800 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 223104 (775%)

Pixel Rate

If using a high screen resolution is important to you, then the Radeon RX 6600 XT is superior to the GeForce GTX 550 Ti, by far. (explain)

Radeon RX 6600 XT 125952 Mpixels/sec
GeForce GTX 550 Ti 21600 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 104352 (483%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Memory bandwidth is the max amount of information (counted in MB per second) that can be moved over the external memory interface in a second. It's worked out by multiplying the bus width by its memory speed. In the case of DDR memory, it must be multiplied by 2 once again. If it uses DDR5, multiply by ANOTHER 2x. The better the card's memory bandwidth, the better the card will be in general. It especially helps with anti-aliasing, High Dynamic Range and high resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum texture map elements (texels) that are processed per second. This is worked out by multiplying the total number of texture units by the core clock speed of the chip. The higher the texel rate, the better the card will be at texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels per second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum number of pixels the video card could possibly write to the local memory in a second - measured in millions of pixels per second. Pixel rate is calculated by multiplying the amount of Render Output Units by the clock speed of the card. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - aka Render Output Units) are responsible for drawing the pixels (image) on the screen. The actual pixel fill rate also depends on lots of other factors, most notably the memory bandwidth of the card - the lower the bandwidth is, the lower the ability to reach the maximum fill rate.
