GeForce RTX 2070 vs Radeon RX 6600 XT

Intro

The GeForce RTX 2070 features a GPU core speed of 1410 MHz, and the 8192 MB of GDDR6 RAM runs at 1750 MHz through a 256-bit bus. It also is made up of 2304 SPUs, 144 TAUs, and 64 Raster Operation Units.

Compare those specs to the Radeon RX 6600 XT, which features a GPU core clock speed of 1968 MHz, and 8192 MB of GDDR6 RAM running at 2000 MHz through a 128-bit bus. It also features 2048 SPUs, 128 Texture Address Units, and 64 Raster Operation Units.

Power Usage and Theoretical Benchmarks

Power Consumption (Max TDP)

Radeon RX 6600 XT 160 Watts
GeForce RTX 2070 175 Watts
Difference: 15 Watts (9%)

Memory Bandwidth

The GeForce RTX 2070 should theoretically perform much faster than the Radeon RX 6600 XT overall. (explain)

GeForce RTX 2070 458752 MB/sec
Radeon RX 6600 XT 262144 MB/sec
Difference: 196608 (75%)

Texel Rate

The Radeon RX 6600 XT should be a lot (about 24%) faster with regards to texture filtering than the GeForce RTX 2070. (explain)

Radeon RX 6600 XT 251904 Mtexels/sec
GeForce RTX 2070 203040 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 48864 (24%)

Pixel Rate

If running with a high resolution is important to you, then the Radeon RX 6600 XT is a better choice, and very much so. (explain)

Radeon RX 6600 XT 125952 Mpixels/sec
GeForce RTX 2070 90240 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 35712 (40%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Bandwidth is the max amount of data (in units of megabytes per second) that can be transferred past the external memory interface in one second. It's worked out by multiplying the interface width by its memory clock speed. In the case of DDR type RAM, it must be multiplied by 2 again. If DDR5, multiply by 4 instead. The better the bandwidth is, the better the card will be in general. It especially helps with anti-aliasing, High Dynamic Range and high resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum amount of texture map elements (texels) that are processed in one second. This number is worked out by multiplying the total number of texture units of the card by the core speed of the chip. The higher this number, the better the video card will be at handling texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels in a second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum number of pixels the video card can possibly record to the local memory per second - measured in millions of pixels per second. Pixel rate is worked out by multiplying the amount of Raster Operations Pipelines by the clock speed of the card. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - sometimes also referred to as Render Output Units) are responsible for filling the screen with pixels (the image). The actual pixel rate is also dependant on lots of other factors, especially the memory bandwidth - the lower the memory bandwidth is, the lower the ability to reach the max fill rate.
