GeForce GTX Titan X vs Radeon RX 6900 XT

Intro

The GeForce GTX Titan X uses a 28 nm design. nVidia has set the core speed at 1000 MHz. The GDDR5 RAM is set to run at a frequency of 1750 MHz on this specific model. It features 3072 SPUs along with 192 TAUs and 96 ROPs.

Compare those specs to the Radeon RX 6900 XT, which features core speeds of 1825 MHz on the GPU, and 2000 MHz on the 16384 MB of GDDR6 RAM. It features 5120 SPUs along with 320 Texture Address Units and 128 ROPs.

Power Usage and Theoretical Benchmarks

Power Consumption (Max TDP)

GeForce GTX Titan X 250 Watts
Radeon RX 6900 XT 300 Watts
Difference: 50 Watts (20%)

Memory Bandwidth

In theory, the Radeon RX 6900 XT should perform quite a bit faster than the GeForce GTX Titan X in general. (explain)

Radeon RX 6900 XT 524288 MB/sec
GeForce GTX Titan X 336000 MB/sec
Difference: 188288 (56%)

Texel Rate

The Radeon RX 6900 XT is quite a bit (about 204%) faster with regards to AF than the GeForce GTX Titan X. (explain)

Radeon RX 6900 XT 584000 Mtexels/sec
GeForce GTX Titan X 192000 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 392000 (204%)

Pixel Rate

If running with a high screen resolution is important to you, then the Radeon RX 6900 XT is the winner, and very much so. (explain)

Radeon RX 6900 XT 233600 Mpixels/sec
GeForce GTX Titan X 96000 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 137600 (143%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Bandwidth is the maximum amount of information (counted in MB per second) that can be moved across the external memory interface within a second. The number is calculated by multiplying the interface width by the speed of its memory. If it uses DDR memory, it must be multiplied by 2 once again. If DDR5, multiply by 4 instead. The higher the card's memory bandwidth, the faster the card will be in general. It especially helps with AA, HDR and higher screen resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum texture map elements (texels) that are applied in one second. This is calculated by multiplying the total amount of texture units of the card by the core clock speed of the chip. The higher this number, the better the graphics card will be at texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels applied in a second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum amount of pixels that the graphics chip could possibly record to the local memory in a second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The figure is worked out by multiplying the amount of Render Output Units by the the core speed of the card. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - aka Render Output Units) are responsible for filling the screen with pixels (the image). The actual pixel fill rate also depends on quite a few other factors, especially the memory bandwidth - the lower the memory bandwidth is, the lower the potential to get to the maximum fill rate.
