Radeon RX 570 vs Radeon RX 6800 XT

Intro

The Radeon RX 570 comes with a clock speed of 1168 MHz and a GDDR5 memory frequency of 1750 MHz. It also uses a 256-bit memory bus, and makes use of a 14 nm design. It is comprised of 2048 SPUs, 128 Texture Address Units, and 32 Raster Operation Units.

Compare those specs to the Radeon RX 6800 XT, which has clock speeds of 1825 MHz on the GPU, and 2000 MHz on the 16384 MB of GDDR6 memory. It features 4608 SPUs along with 288 Texture Address Units and 128 Rasterization Operator Units.

Power Usage and Theoretical Benchmarks

Power Consumption (Max TDP)

Radeon RX 570 150 Watts
Radeon RX 6800 XT 300 Watts
Difference: 150 Watts (100%)

Memory Bandwidth

The Radeon RX 6800 XT should theoretically perform much faster than the Radeon RX 570 in general. (explain)

Radeon RX 6800 XT 524288 MB/sec
Radeon RX 570 229376 MB/sec
Difference: 294912 (129%)

Texel Rate

The Radeon RX 6800 XT should be quite a bit (about 252%) more effective at texture filtering than the Radeon RX 570. (explain)

Radeon RX 6800 XT 525600 Mtexels/sec
Radeon RX 570 149504 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 376096 (252%)

Pixel Rate

If using a high screen resolution is important to you, then the Radeon RX 6800 XT is superior to the Radeon RX 570, and very much so. (explain)

Radeon RX 6800 XT 233600 Mpixels/sec
Radeon RX 570 37376 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 196224 (525%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Memory bandwidth is the max amount of data (measured in megabytes per second) that can be transported past the external memory interface within a second. It's calculated by multiplying the bus width by the speed of its memory. If it uses DDR RAM, it must be multiplied by 2 again. If DDR5, multiply by ANOTHER 2x. The better the memory bandwidth, the better the card will be in general. It especially helps with anti-aliasing, High Dynamic Range and high resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum texture map elements (texels) that can be processed in one second. This number is calculated by multiplying the total number of texture units by the core clock speed of the chip. The better this number, the better the video card will be at handling texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels processed in one second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum amount of pixels the graphics card can possibly write to its local memory in one second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The figure is calculated by multiplying the amount of Raster Operations Pipelines by the the card's clock speed. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - also sometimes called Render Output Units) are responsible for filling the screen with pixels (the image). The actual pixel output rate is also dependant on many other factors, most notably the memory bandwidth of the card - the lower the bandwidth is, the lower the potential to reach the max fill rate.
