GeForce 920M vs Radeon RX 5700 XT

Intro

The GeForce 920M has clock speeds of 954 MHz on the GPU, and 900 MHz on the 2048 MB of DDR3 RAM. It features 384 SPUs as well as 32 TAUs and 8 ROPs.

Compare all of that to the Radeon RX 5700 XT, which uses a 7 nm design. AMD has set the core frequency at 1605 MHz. The GDDR6 RAM runs at a frequency of 1750 MHz on this particular model. It features 2560 SPUs as well as 160 Texture Address Units and 64 ROPs.

Power Usage and Theoretical Benchmarks

Memory Bandwidth

As far as performance goes, the Radeon RX 5700 XT should theoretically be a lot superior to the GeForce 920M overall. (explain)

Radeon RX 5700 XT 458752 MB/sec
GeForce 920M 14400 MB/sec
Difference: 444352 (3086%)

Texel Rate

The Radeon RX 5700 XT is quite a bit (approximately 741%) better at AF than the GeForce 920M. (explain)

Radeon RX 5700 XT 256800 Mtexels/sec
GeForce 920M 30528 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 226272 (741%)

Pixel Rate

The Radeon RX 5700 XT should be a lot (approximately 1246%) better at anti-aliasing than the GeForce 920M, and also will be able to handle higher screen resolutions without losing too much performance. (explain)

Radeon RX 5700 XT 102720 Mpixels/sec
GeForce 920M 7632 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 95088 (1246%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Bandwidth is the largest amount of data (measured in megabytes per second) that can be transferred across the external memory interface in one second. It is calculated by multiplying the card's interface width by its memory speed. If the card has DDR memory, it should be multiplied by 2 again. If it uses DDR5, multiply by 4 instead. The better the memory bandwidth, the better the card will be in general. It especially helps with anti-aliasing, HDR and high resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum amount of texture map elements (texels) that are processed in one second. This number is calculated by multiplying the total amount of texture units of the card by the core speed of the chip. The better this number, the better the card will be at texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels in a second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum amount of pixels the video card can possibly write to the local memory per second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The figure is calculated by multiplying the amount of colour ROPs by the the card's clock speed. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - sometimes also referred to as Render Output Units) are responsible for filling the screen with pixels (the image). The actual pixel rate is also dependant on quite a few other factors, most notably the memory bandwidth - the lower the bandwidth is, the lower the ability to get to the maximum fill rate.
