GeForce 810M vs Radeon R7 M265

Intro

The GeForce 810M comes with core clock speeds of 738 MHz on the GPU, and 900 MHz on the 1024 MB of DDR3 RAM. It features 48 SPUs as well as 8 TAUs and 4 ROPs.

Compare all that to the Radeon R7 M265, which has core speeds of 725 MHz on the GPU, and 1000 MHz on the 2048 MB of DDR3 memory. It features 384 SPUs as well as 24 Texture Address Units and 8 Rasterization Operator Units.

Power Usage and Theoretical Benchmarks

Memory Bandwidth

In theory, the Radeon R7 M265 will be 122% faster than the GeForce 810M in general, due to its higher data rate. (explain)

Radeon R7 M265 32000 MB/sec
GeForce 810M 14400 MB/sec
Difference: 17600 (122%)

Texel Rate

The Radeon R7 M265 will be quite a bit (approximately 195%) better at AF than the GeForce 810M. (explain)

Radeon R7 M265 17400 Mtexels/sec
GeForce 810M 5904 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 11496 (195%)

Pixel Rate

The Radeon R7 M265 should be much (more or less 96%) faster with regards to full screen anti-aliasing than the GeForce 810M, and should be capable of handling higher screen resolutions without slowing down too much. (explain)

Radeon R7 M265 5800 Mpixels/sec
GeForce 810M 2952 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 2848 (96%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Bandwidth is the largest amount of information (in units of MB per second) that can be transported over the external memory interface in a second. It's worked out by multiplying the card's bus width by its memory speed. In the case of DDR type memory, the result should be multiplied by 2 once again. If DDR5, multiply by 4 instead. The better the card's memory bandwidth, the better the card will be in general. It especially helps with AA, HDR and high resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum texture map elements (texels) that can be processed in one second. This is worked out by multiplying the total number of texture units by the core clock speed of the chip. The higher the texel rate, the better the video card will be at texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels in one second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum amount of pixels the graphics card can possibly write to the local memory per second - measured in millions of pixels per second. Pixel rate is worked out by multiplying the number of ROPs by the the card's clock speed. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - also called Render Output Units) are responsible for filling the screen with pixels (the image). The actual pixel output rate is also dependant on lots of other factors, especially the memory bandwidth of the card - the lower the bandwidth is, the lower the potential to reach the maximum fill rate.
