GeForce GTX 980M vs Radeon HD 6750 1GB

Intro

The GeForce GTX 980M has a GPU core clock speed of 1038 MHz, and the 4096 MB of GDDR5 RAM runs at 1000 MHz through a 256-bit bus. It also is made up of 1536 Stream Processors, 96 TAUs, and 64 ROPs.

Compare that to the Radeon HD 6750 1GB, which uses a 40 nm design. AMD has clocked the core frequency at 725 MHz. The GDDR5 RAM works at a speed of 1000 MHz on this particular card. It features 720 SPUs as well as 36 TAUs and 16 Rasterization Operator Units.

Memory Bandwidth

In theory, the GeForce GTX 980M will be 100% quicker than the Radeon HD 6750 1GB in general, due to its greater data rate. (explain)

GeForce GTX 980M 128000 MB/sec
Radeon HD 6750 1GB 64000 MB/sec
Difference: 64000 (100%)

Texel Rate

The GeForce GTX 980M should be quite a bit (more or less 282%) better at AF than the Radeon HD 6750 1GB. (explain)

GeForce GTX 980M 99648 Mtexels/sec
Radeon HD 6750 1GB 26100 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 73548 (282%)

Pixel Rate

The GeForce GTX 980M will be quite a bit (about 473%) more effective at FSAA than the Radeon HD 6750 1GB, and also able to handle higher resolutions more effectively. (explain)

GeForce GTX 980M 66432 Mpixels/sec
Radeon HD 6750 1GB 11600 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 54832 (473%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Memory bandwidth is the max amount of data (counted in megabytes per second) that can be transported past the external memory interface in one second. It is worked out by multiplying the interface width by its memory speed. If it uses DDR type RAM, it should be multiplied by 2 once again. If it uses DDR5, multiply by 4 instead. The better the bandwidth is, the faster the card will be in general. It especially helps with anti-aliasing, HDR and high resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum texture map elements (texels) that are applied in one second. This number is worked out by multiplying the total texture units of the card by the core speed of the chip. The better the texel rate, the better the card will be at handling texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels processed in one second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum amount of pixels the video card can possibly write to its local memory in one second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The number is calculated by multiplying the amount of Render Output Units by the clock speed of the card. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - also called Render Output Units) are responsible for outputting the pixels (image) to the screen. The actual pixel fill rate also depends on many other factors, most notably the memory bandwidth - the lower the bandwidth is, the lower the ability to reach the max fill rate.
