Compare any two graphics cards:
GeForce GTX 550 Ti vs Radeon HD 6870
IntroThe GeForce GTX 550 Ti makes use of a 40 nm design. nVidia has clocked the core speed at 900 MHz. The GDDR5 memory works at a speed of 1026 MHz on this particular card. It features 192 SPUs along with 32 Texture Address Units and 24 ROPs.Compare those specifications to the Radeon HD 6870, which comes with core clock speeds of 900 MHz on the GPU, and 1050 MHz on the 1024 MB of GDDR5 memory. It features 1120 SPUs as well as 56 Texture Address Units and 32 ROPs.

Power Usage and Theoretical BenchmarksPower Consumption (Max TDP)
Memory BandwidthThe Radeon HD 6870, in theory, should perform much faster than the GeForce GTX 550 Ti overall. (explain)
Texel RateThe Radeon HD 6870 will be quite a bit (approximately 75%) better at anisotropic filtering than the GeForce GTX 550 Ti. (explain)
Pixel RateThe Radeon HD 6870 will be quite a bit (more or less 33%) more effective at full screen anti-aliasing than the GeForce GTX 550 Ti, and able to handle higher screen resolutions without slowing down too much. (explain)
Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit. Price Comparison

Memory Bandwidth: Bandwidth is the maximum amount of data (in units of megabytes per second) that can be transferred across the external memory interface within a second. It is worked out by multiplying the bus width by its memory clock speed. If the card has DDR memory, it should be multiplied by 2 again. If DDR5, multiply by ANOTHER 2x. The better the card's memory bandwidth, the faster the card will be in general. It especially helps with AA, HDR and high resolutions. Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum number of texture map elements (texels) that can be processed in one second. This figure is calculated by multiplying the total texture units by the core clock speed of the chip. The better the texel rate, the better the video card will be at handling texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels processed in a second. Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum number of pixels the graphics card can possibly write to the local memory in one second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The number is worked out by multiplying the amount of Render Output Units by the the core clock speed. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - also called Render Output Units) are responsible for drawing the pixels (image) on the screen. The actual pixel fill rate also depends on many other factors, especially the memory bandwidth of the card - the lower the bandwidth is, the lower the potential to get to the max fill rate.
