GeForce GTX 465 vs Radeon HD 6750 1GB

Intro

The GeForce GTX 465 has core clock speeds of 607 MHz on the GPU, and 802 MHz on the 1024 MB of GDDR5 RAM. It features 352 SPUs along with 44 Texture Address Units and 32 ROPs.

Compare those specs to the Radeon HD 6750 1GB, which makes use of a 40 nm design. AMD has clocked the core speed at 725 MHz. The GDDR5 RAM runs at a speed of 1000 MHz on this particular card. It features 720 SPUs along with 36 Texture Address Units and 16 ROPs.

GeForce GTX 465 200 Watts
Difference: 114 Watts (133%)

Memory Bandwidth

In theory, the GeForce GTX 465 should be 60% quicker than the Radeon HD 6750 1GB in general, because of its higher bandwidth. (explain)

GeForce GTX 465 102592 MB/sec
Radeon HD 6750 1GB 64000 MB/sec
Difference: 38592 (60%)

Texel Rate

The GeForce GTX 465 is a small bit (approximately 2%) more effective at texture filtering than the Radeon HD 6750 1GB. (explain)

GeForce GTX 465 26708 Mtexels/sec
Radeon HD 6750 1GB 26100 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 608 (2%)

Pixel Rate

The GeForce GTX 465 should be quite a bit (about 67%) more effective at full screen anti-aliasing than the Radeon HD 6750 1GB, and also able to handle higher resolutions better. (explain)

GeForce GTX 465 19424 Mpixels/sec
Radeon HD 6750 1GB 11600 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 7824 (67%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Memory bandwidth is the largest amount of data (measured in MB per second) that can be transferred across the external memory interface in a second. It's worked out by multiplying the card's bus width by its memory speed. If it uses DDR memory, the result should be multiplied by 2 again. If it uses DDR5, multiply by ANOTHER 2x. The better the card's memory bandwidth, the faster the card will be in general. It especially helps with AA, High Dynamic Range and high resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum texture map elements (texels) that can be applied per second. This number is calculated by multiplying the total number of texture units of the card by the core clock speed of the chip. The higher the texel rate, the better the video card will be at handling texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels processed per second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the most pixels the graphics card could possibly record to its local memory per second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The figure is calculated by multiplying the amount of Render Output Units by the the card's clock speed. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - aka Render Output Units) are responsible for filling the screen with pixels (the image). The actual pixel fill rate is also dependant on lots of other factors, most notably the memory bandwidth - the lower the bandwidth is, the lower the ability to get to the max fill rate.
