GeForce GT 315 52 Watts
GeForce GT 440 3GB 56 Watts
Difference: 4 Watts (8%)

Memory Bandwidth

Performance-wise, the GeForce GT 440 3GB should in theory be much superior to the GeForce GT 315 in general. (explain)

GeForce GT 440 3GB 43200 MB/sec
GeForce GT 315 25280 MB/sec
Difference: 17920 (71%)

Texel Rate

The GeForce GT 440 3GB will be much (approximately 43%) faster with regards to texture filtering than the GeForce GT 315. (explain)

GeForce GT 440 3GB 14256 Mtexels/sec
GeForce GT 315 10000 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 4256 (43%)

Pixel Rate

The GeForce GT 440 3GB will be quite a bit (more or less 185%) better at full screen anti-aliasing than the GeForce GT 315, and will be able to handle higher screen resolutions more effectively. (explain)

GeForce GT 440 3GB 14256 Mpixels/sec
GeForce GT 315 5000 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 9256 (185%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Memory bandwidth is the max amount of data (counted in MB per second) that can be transferred across the external memory interface in a second. The number is calculated by multiplying the bus width by the speed of its memory. If the card has DDR memory, it must be multiplied by 2 once again. If it uses DDR5, multiply by ANOTHER 2x. The higher the bandwidth is, the faster the card will be in general. It especially helps with anti-aliasing, HDR and high resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum texture map elements (texels) that are processed per second. This is worked out by multiplying the total amount of texture units by the core clock speed of the chip. The higher this number, the better the graphics card will be at texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels processed per second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the most pixels the video card could possibly record to the local memory per second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The number is worked out by multiplying the number of colour ROPs by the clock speed of the card. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - also sometimes called Render Output Units) are responsible for outputting the pixels (image) to the screen. The actual pixel output rate is also dependant on lots of other factors, especially the memory bandwidth - the lower the memory bandwidth is, the lower the potential to reach the max fill rate.
