GeForce RTX 4070 Ti vs Radeon RX 6650 XT

Intro

The GeForce RTX 4070 Ti features a GPU core clock speed of 2310 MHz, and the 12288 MB of GDDR6X RAM runs at 1313 MHz through a 192-bit bus. It also is comprised of 7680 Stream Processors, 240 Texture Address Units, and 80 Raster Operation Units.

Compare that to the Radeon RX 6650 XT, which features a clock speed of 2055 MHz and a GDDR6 memory speed of 2190 MHz. It also makes use of a 128-bit bus, and uses a 7 nm design. It is comprised of 2048 SPUs, 128 TAUs, and 64 Raster Operation Units.

Power Usage and Theoretical Benchmarks

Power Consumption (Max TDP)

Radeon RX 6650 XT 176 Watts
GeForce RTX 4070 Ti 285 Watts
Difference: 109 Watts (62%)

Memory Bandwidth

Theoretically, the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti should perform quite a bit faster than the Radeon RX 6650 XT in general. (explain)

GeForce RTX 4070 Ti 516096 MB/sec
Radeon RX 6650 XT 287072 MB/sec
Difference: 229024 (80%)

Texel Rate

The GeForce RTX 4070 Ti will be much (about 111%) better at AF than the Radeon RX 6650 XT. (explain)

GeForce RTX 4070 Ti 554400 Mtexels/sec
Radeon RX 6650 XT 263040 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 291360 (111%)

Pixel Rate

If using a high resolution is important to you, then the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti is a better choice, and very much so. (explain)

GeForce RTX 4070 Ti 184800 Mpixels/sec
Radeon RX 6650 XT 131520 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 53280 (41%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Memory bandwidth is the largest amount of data (measured in MB per second) that can be transported over the external memory interface within a second. The number is calculated by multiplying the card's interface width by the speed of its memory. If the card has DDR memory, the result should be multiplied by 2 again. If it uses DDR5, multiply by ANOTHER 2x. The higher the bandwidth is, the faster the card will be in general. It especially helps with anti-aliasing, High Dynamic Range and higher screen resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum amount of texture map elements (texels) that can be processed in one second. This figure is worked out by multiplying the total amount of texture units by the core speed of the chip. The better the texel rate, the better the card will be at texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels in a second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum amount of pixels that the graphics chip could possibly write to its local memory in a second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The figure is worked out by multiplying the amount of colour ROPs by the the core clock speed. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - also sometimes called Render Output Units) are responsible for outputting the pixels (image) to the screen. The actual pixel rate is also dependant on lots of other factors, most notably the memory bandwidth of the card - the lower the memory bandwidth is, the lower the potential to get to the maximum fill rate.
