GeForce GTX 1630 vs GeForce RTX 2070

Intro

The GeForce GTX 1630 comes with a core clock frequency of 1740 MHz and a GDDR6 memory frequency of 1500 MHz. It also features a 64-bit bus, and makes use of a 12 nm design. It is comprised of 512 SPUs, 32 TAUs, and 16 Raster Operation Units.

Compare that to the GeForce RTX 2070, which makes use of a 12 nm design. nVidia has clocked the core speed at 1410 MHz. The GDDR6 memory runs at a speed of 1750 MHz on this specific model. It features 2304 SPUs along with 144 Texture Address Units and 64 ROPs.

GeForce GTX 1630 75 Watts
GeForce RTX 2070 175 Watts
Difference: 100 Watts (133%)

Memory Bandwidth

As far as performance goes, the GeForce RTX 2070 should in theory be much superior to the GeForce GTX 1630 overall. (explain)

GeForce RTX 2070 458752 MB/sec
GeForce GTX 1630 98304 MB/sec
Difference: 360448 (367%)

Texel Rate

The GeForce RTX 2070 is much (more or less 265%) faster with regards to AF than the GeForce GTX 1630. (explain)

GeForce RTX 2070 203040 Mtexels/sec
GeForce GTX 1630 55680 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 147360 (265%)

Pixel Rate

The GeForce RTX 2070 should be a lot (more or less 224%) more effective at FSAA than the GeForce GTX 1630, and also should be capable of handling higher resolutions without losing too much performance. (explain)

GeForce RTX 2070 90240 Mpixels/sec
GeForce GTX 1630 27840 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 62400 (224%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Bandwidth is the largest amount of data (in units of MB per second) that can be transferred past the external memory interface within a second. It is calculated by multiplying the interface width by the speed of its memory. If the card has DDR memory, the result should be multiplied by 2 again. If it uses DDR5, multiply by ANOTHER 2x. The higher the memory bandwidth, the better the card will be in general. It especially helps with anti-aliasing, High Dynamic Range and high resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum texture map elements (texels) that can be applied in one second. This figure is calculated by multiplying the total number of texture units of the card by the core clock speed of the chip. The higher the texel rate, the better the card will be at handling texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels processed per second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum amount of pixels that the graphics card can possibly write to the local memory in a second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The figure is calculated by multiplying the amount of colour ROPs by the clock speed of the card. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - sometimes also referred to as Render Output Units) are responsible for drawing the pixels (image) on the screen. The actual pixel output rate is also dependant on many other factors, especially the memory bandwidth of the card - the lower the memory bandwidth is, the lower the potential to reach the max fill rate.
