Radeon RX 590 vs Radeon RX 6750 XT

Intro

The Radeon RX 590 has a core clock frequency of 1469 MHz and a GDDR5 memory speed of 2000 MHz. It also makes use of a 256-bit bus, and makes use of a 12 nm design. It is made up of 2304 SPUs, 144 TAUs, and 32 ROPs.

Compare all of that to the Radeon RX 6750 XT, which features core clock speeds of 2150 MHz on the GPU, and 2250 MHz on the 12288 MB of GDDR6 RAM. It features 2560 SPUs as well as 160 TAUs and 64 ROPs.

Power Usage and Theoretical Benchmarks

Power Consumption (Max TDP)

Radeon RX 590 175 Watts
Radeon RX 6750 XT 250 Watts
Difference: 75 Watts (43%)

Memory Bandwidth

As far as performance goes, the Radeon RX 6750 XT should in theory be much better than the Radeon RX 590 in general. (explain)

Radeon RX 6750 XT 442368 MB/sec
Radeon RX 590 262144 MB/sec
Difference: 180224 (69%)

Texel Rate

The Radeon RX 6750 XT is quite a bit (more or less 63%) better at AF than the Radeon RX 590. (explain)

Radeon RX 6750 XT 344000 Mtexels/sec
Radeon RX 590 211536 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 132464 (63%)

Pixel Rate

The Radeon RX 6750 XT is quite a bit (approximately 193%) better at anti-aliasing than the Radeon RX 590, and also should be able to handle higher screen resolutions without losing too much performance. (explain)

Radeon RX 6750 XT 137600 Mpixels/sec
Radeon RX 590 47008 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 90592 (193%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Memory bandwidth is the max amount of information (in units of MB per second) that can be transported past the external memory interface within a second. It is worked out by multiplying the interface width by the speed of its memory. If the card has DDR type RAM, the result should be multiplied by 2 once again. If it uses DDR5, multiply by ANOTHER 2x. The higher the bandwidth is, the better the card will be in general. It especially helps with anti-aliasing, HDR and high resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum texture map elements (texels) that can be processed per second. This figure is worked out by multiplying the total number of texture units by the core speed of the chip. The higher the texel rate, the better the video card will be at texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels processed in a second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum amount of pixels that the graphics chip can possibly write to the local memory in one second - measured in millions of pixels per second. Pixel rate is calculated by multiplying the amount of ROPs by the the card's clock speed. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - sometimes also referred to as Render Output Units) are responsible for drawing the pixels (image) on the screen. The actual pixel output rate is also dependant on lots of other factors, most notably the memory bandwidth - the lower the memory bandwidth is, the lower the potential to reach the max fill rate.
