Radeon RX 5600 XT vs Radeon RX 6600

Intro

The Radeon RX 5600 XT comes with core speeds of 1375 MHz on the GPU, and 1500 MHz on the 6144 MB of GDDR6 memory. It features 2304 SPUs as well as 144 TAUs and 64 ROPs.

Compare all of that to the Radeon RX 6600, which has a core clock frequency of 1626 MHz and a GDDR6 memory speed of 1750 MHz. It also makes use of a 128-bit bus, and makes use of a 7 nm design. It is comprised of 1792 SPUs, 112 TAUs, and 64 ROPs.

Power Usage and Theoretical Benchmarks

Power Consumption (Max TDP)

Radeon RX 6600 132 Watts
Radeon RX 5600 XT 160 Watts
Difference: 28 Watts (21%)

Memory Bandwidth

Theoretically speaking, the Radeon RX 5600 XT will be 50% faster than the Radeon RX 6600 overall, because of its higher data rate. (explain)

Radeon RX 5600 XT 344064 MB/sec
Radeon RX 6600 229376 MB/sec
Difference: 114688 (50%)

Texel Rate

The Radeon RX 5600 XT should be just a bit (approximately 9%) faster with regards to anisotropic filtering than the Radeon RX 6600. (explain)

Radeon RX 5600 XT 198000 Mtexels/sec
Radeon RX 6600 182112 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 15888 (9%)

Pixel Rate

If running with a high resolution is important to you, then the Radeon RX 6600 is a better choice, but only just. (explain)

Radeon RX 6600 104064 Mpixels/sec
Radeon RX 5600 XT 88000 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 16064 (18%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Bandwidth is the max amount of information (measured in megabytes per second) that can be transported across the external memory interface in one second. It's worked out by multiplying the card's bus width by its memory speed. If it uses DDR type memory, it must be multiplied by 2 again. If it uses DDR5, multiply by ANOTHER 2x. The better the memory bandwidth, the faster the card will be in general. It especially helps with AA, High Dynamic Range and higher screen resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum amount of texture map elements (texels) that can be applied per second. This is worked out by multiplying the total amount of texture units of the card by the core clock speed of the chip. The higher this number, the better the video card will be at handling texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels processed in one second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the most pixels the graphics card could possibly record to the local memory per second - measured in millions of pixels per second. Pixel rate is calculated by multiplying the number of Render Output Units by the the core speed of the card. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - aka Render Output Units) are responsible for filling the screen with pixels (the image). The actual pixel rate also depends on many other factors, especially the memory bandwidth of the card - the lower the memory bandwidth is, the lower the ability to reach the maximum fill rate.
