GeForce RTX 3080 vs Radeon RX 6600 XT

Intro

The GeForce RTX 3080 has core speeds of 1440 MHz on the GPU, and 1188 MHz on the 10240 MB of GDDR6X memory. It features 8704 SPUs along with 272 TAUs and 96 Rasterization Operator Units.

Compare all of that to the Radeon RX 6600 XT, which uses a 7 nm design. AMD has set the core speed at 1968 MHz. The GDDR6 memory works at a frequency of 2000 MHz on this model. It features 2048 SPUs along with 128 TAUs and 64 Rasterization Operator Units.

Power Usage and Theoretical Benchmarks

Power Consumption (Max TDP)

Radeon RX 6600 XT 160 Watts
GeForce RTX 3080 320 Watts
Difference: 160 Watts (100%)

Memory Bandwidth

In theory, the GeForce RTX 3080 should be quite a bit faster than the Radeon RX 6600 XT overall. (explain)

GeForce RTX 3080 778547 MB/sec
Radeon RX 6600 XT 262144 MB/sec
Difference: 516403 (197%)

Texel Rate

The GeForce RTX 3080 will be much (more or less 55%) more effective at texture filtering than the Radeon RX 6600 XT. (explain)

GeForce RTX 3080 391680 Mtexels/sec
Radeon RX 6600 XT 251904 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 139776 (55%)

Pixel Rate

If using lots of anti-aliasing is important to you, then the GeForce RTX 3080 is a better choice, but it probably won't make a huge difference. (explain)

GeForce RTX 3080 138240 Mpixels/sec
Radeon RX 6600 XT 125952 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 12288 (10%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Bandwidth is the largest amount of data (counted in MB per second) that can be moved past the external memory interface within a second. It is worked out by multiplying the bus width by the speed of its memory. If the card has DDR type RAM, the result should be multiplied by 2 again. If DDR5, multiply by ANOTHER 2x. The higher the card's memory bandwidth, the faster the card will be in general. It especially helps with AA, High Dynamic Range and higher screen resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum number of texture map elements (texels) that can be applied in one second. This figure is calculated by multiplying the total amount of texture units by the core clock speed of the chip. The higher this number, the better the graphics card will be at texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels processed in one second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the most pixels that the graphics card could possibly record to its local memory per second - measured in millions of pixels per second. Pixel rate is worked out by multiplying the number of colour ROPs by the the core speed of the card. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - aka Render Output Units) are responsible for drawing the pixels (image) on the screen. The actual pixel rate is also dependant on quite a few other factors, most notably the memory bandwidth of the card - the lower the memory bandwidth is, the lower the ability to get to the max fill rate.
