Radeon RX 550 vs Radeon RX 6900 XT

Intro

The Radeon RX 550 has a GPU core clock speed of 1100 MHz, and the 2048 MB of GDDR5 memory is set to run at 1750 MHz through a 128-bit bus. It also features 512 SPUs, 32 TAUs, and 16 Raster Operation Units.

Compare all that to the Radeon RX 6900 XT, which features core speeds of 1825 MHz on the GPU, and 2000 MHz on the 16384 MB of GDDR6 RAM. It features 5120 SPUs as well as 320 Texture Address Units and 128 Rasterization Operator Units.

As far as performance goes, the Radeon RX 6900 XT should in theory be a lot better than the Radeon RX 550 overall. (explain)

Radeon RX 6900 XT 524288 MB/sec
Radeon RX 550 114688 MB/sec
Difference: 409600 (357%)

Texel Rate

The Radeon RX 6900 XT is much (about 1559%) better at AF than the Radeon RX 550. (explain)

Radeon RX 6900 XT 584000 Mtexels/sec
Radeon RX 550 35200 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 548800 (1559%)

Pixel Rate

The Radeon RX 6900 XT is a lot (about 1227%) better at FSAA than the Radeon RX 550, and also will be able to handle higher screen resolutions without losing too much performance. (explain)

Radeon RX 6900 XT 233600 Mpixels/sec
Radeon RX 550 17600 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 216000 (1227%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Bandwidth is the maximum amount of data (measured in megabytes per second) that can be transported past the external memory interface within a second. It is calculated by multiplying the card's bus width by the speed of its memory. If it uses DDR type RAM, it should be multiplied by 2 once again. If it uses DDR5, multiply by 4 instead. The higher the bandwidth is, the faster the card will be in general. It especially helps with anti-aliasing, High Dynamic Range and higher screen resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum texture map elements (texels) that can be applied in one second. This figure is calculated by multiplying the total amount of texture units by the core speed of the chip. The better this number, the better the graphics card will be at handling texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels applied per second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the most pixels the graphics card can possibly write to the local memory in a second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The figure is worked out by multiplying the amount of Raster Operations Pipelines by the the core clock speed. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - aka Render Output Units) are responsible for drawing the pixels (image) on the screen. The actual pixel fill rate is also dependant on lots of other factors, most notably the memory bandwidth - the lower the memory bandwidth is, the lower the ability to reach the max fill rate.
