GeForce GTX 660 Ti vs Radeon RX 5600

Intro

The GeForce GTX 660 Ti features a clock speed of 915 MHz and a GDDR5 memory speed of 1500 MHz. It also uses a 192-bit bus, and makes use of a 28 nm design. It features 1344 SPUs, 112 TAUs, and 24 Raster Operation Units.

Compare all of that to the Radeon RX 5600, which has a core clock speed of 1375 MHz and a GDDR6 memory speed of 1500 MHz. It also uses a 192-bit bus, and makes use of a 7 nm design. It is made up of 2048 SPUs, 128 TAUs, and 64 Raster Operation Units.

Power Usage and Theoretical Benchmarks

Both cards have the same power consumption.

Memory Bandwidth

Theoretically speaking, the Radeon RX 5600 should be 105% quicker than the GeForce GTX 660 Ti in general, due to its higher bandwidth. (explain)

Radeon RX 5600 294912 MB/sec
GeForce GTX 660 Ti 144000 MB/sec
Difference: 150912 (105%)

Texel Rate

The Radeon RX 5600 is much (approximately 72%) better at anisotropic filtering than the GeForce GTX 660 Ti. (explain)

Radeon RX 5600 176000 Mtexels/sec
GeForce GTX 660 Ti 102480 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 73520 (72%)

Pixel Rate

The Radeon RX 5600 will be quite a bit (more or less 301%) faster with regards to AA than the GeForce GTX 660 Ti, and should be capable of handling higher resolutions more effectively. (explain)

Radeon RX 5600 88000 Mpixels/sec
GeForce GTX 660 Ti 21960 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 66040 (301%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Bandwidth is the maximum amount of information (measured in megabytes per second) that can be transported past the external memory interface within a second. The number is worked out by multiplying the bus width by the speed of its memory. In the case of DDR RAM, the result should be multiplied by 2 again. If DDR5, multiply by 4 instead. The higher the bandwidth is, the better the card will be in general. It especially helps with AA, High Dynamic Range and high resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum texture map elements (texels) that can be applied in one second. This number is calculated by multiplying the total number of texture units of the card by the core clock speed of the chip. The better this number, the better the video card will be at texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels applied in a second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum amount of pixels the graphics card can possibly write to the local memory per second - measured in millions of pixels per second. Pixel rate is calculated by multiplying the number of colour ROPs by the the card's clock speed. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - aka Render Output Units) are responsible for outputting the pixels (image) to the screen. The actual pixel rate is also dependant on quite a few other factors, especially the memory bandwidth of the card - the lower the bandwidth is, the lower the ability to reach the max fill rate.
