GeForce GTX 1050 3GB vs Radeon RX 5600

Intro

The GeForce GTX 1050 3GB has a GPU core clock speed of 1392 MHz, and the 3072 MB of GDDR5 RAM is set to run at 1750 MHz through a 96-bit bus. It also features 768 Stream Processors, 48 TAUs, and 24 Raster Operation Units.

Compare those specs to the Radeon RX 5600, which has a clock speed of 1375 MHz and a GDDR6 memory frequency of 1500 MHz. It also makes use of a 192-bit memory bus, and makes use of a 7 nm design. It is comprised of 2048 SPUs, 128 TAUs, and 64 ROPs.

Radeon RX 5600 150 Watts
Difference: 75 Watts (100%)

Memory Bandwidth

In theory, the Radeon RX 5600 will be 243% quicker than the GeForce GTX 1050 3GB overall, because of its higher data rate. (explain)

Radeon RX 5600 294912 MB/sec
GeForce GTX 1050 3GB 86016 MB/sec
Difference: 208896 (243%)

Texel Rate

The Radeon RX 5600 will be a lot (about 163%) faster with regards to AF than the GeForce GTX 1050 3GB. (explain)

Radeon RX 5600 176000 Mtexels/sec
GeForce GTX 1050 3GB 66816 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 109184 (163%)

Pixel Rate

If running with lots of anti-aliasing is important to you, then the Radeon RX 5600 is a better choice, by far. (explain)

Radeon RX 5600 88000 Mpixels/sec
GeForce GTX 1050 3GB 33408 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 54592 (163%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Bandwidth is the largest amount of data (counted in MB per second) that can be transferred over the external memory interface within a second. It's worked out by multiplying the card's bus width by its memory speed. If it uses DDR type memory, it must be multiplied by 2 once again. If DDR5, multiply by 4 instead. The higher the card's memory bandwidth, the better the card will be in general. It especially helps with AA, High Dynamic Range and higher screen resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum texture map elements (texels) that are applied per second. This figure is calculated by multiplying the total number of texture units by the core speed of the chip. The better this number, the better the video card will be at handling texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels in one second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum amount of pixels that the graphics chip could possibly record to its local memory in a second - measured in millions of pixels per second. Pixel rate is calculated by multiplying the amount of Raster Operations Pipelines by the the core speed of the card. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - also sometimes called Render Output Units) are responsible for filling the screen with pixels (the image). The actual pixel output rate is also dependant on many other factors, especially the memory bandwidth of the card - the lower the bandwidth is, the lower the ability to get to the maximum fill rate.
