GeForce GTX 1660 Ti vs Radeon RX 5700 XT

Intro

The GeForce GTX 1660 Ti comes with a GPU core clock speed of 1500 MHz, and the 6144 MB of GDDR6 memory is set to run at 1500 MHz through a 192-bit bus. It also is made up of 1536 Stream Processors, 96 Texture Address Units, and 48 Raster Operation Units.

Compare those specs to the Radeon RX 5700 XT, which has core clock speeds of 1605 MHz on the GPU, and 1750 MHz on the 8096 MB of GDDR6 memory. It features 2560 SPUs as well as 160 TAUs and 64 Rasterization Operator Units.

Power Usage and Theoretical Benchmarks

Power Consumption (Max TDP)

GeForce GTX 1660 Ti 120 Watts
Radeon RX 5700 XT 225 Watts
Difference: 105 Watts (88%)

Memory Bandwidth

The Radeon RX 5700 XT should theoretically be quite a bit faster than the GeForce GTX 1660 Ti overall. (explain)

Radeon RX 5700 XT 458752 MB/sec
GeForce GTX 1660 Ti 294912 MB/sec
Difference: 163840 (56%)

Texel Rate

The Radeon RX 5700 XT is a lot (more or less 78%) more effective at AF than the GeForce GTX 1660 Ti. (explain)

Radeon RX 5700 XT 256800 Mtexels/sec
GeForce GTX 1660 Ti 144000 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 112800 (78%)

Pixel Rate

If running with high levels of AA is important to you, then the Radeon RX 5700 XT is a better choice, by far. (explain)

Radeon RX 5700 XT 102720 Mpixels/sec
GeForce GTX 1660 Ti 72000 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 30720 (43%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Memory bandwidth is the maximum amount of data (counted in megabytes per second) that can be transported past the external memory interface within a second. It is worked out by multiplying the card's interface width by its memory speed. If the card has DDR memory, it should be multiplied by 2 again. If it uses DDR5, multiply by ANOTHER 2x. The higher the memory bandwidth, the better the card will be in general. It especially helps with anti-aliasing, HDR and high resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum amount of texture map elements (texels) that can be processed per second. This figure is worked out by multiplying the total number of texture units by the core speed of the chip. The better the texel rate, the better the card will be at texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels in one second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum amount of pixels the graphics card could possibly write to the local memory in a second - measured in millions of pixels per second. Pixel rate is worked out by multiplying the amount of colour ROPs by the clock speed of the card. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - aka Render Output Units) are responsible for outputting the pixels (image) to the screen. The actual pixel output rate also depends on many other factors, especially the memory bandwidth - the lower the memory bandwidth is, the lower the ability to get to the maximum fill rate.
