GeForce 920M vs GeForce RTX 2060

Intro

The GeForce 920M makes use of a 28 nm design. nVidia has clocked the core speed at 954 MHz. The DDR3 memory is set to run at a speed of 900 MHz on this specific model. It features 384 SPUs along with 32 TAUs and 8 Rasterization Operator Units.

Compare all that to the GeForce RTX 2060, which comes with core clock speeds of 1365 MHz on the GPU, and 1750 MHz on the 6144 MB of GDDR6 RAM. It features 1920 SPUs along with 120 Texture Address Units and 48 Rasterization Operator Units.

Power Usage and Theoretical Benchmarks

Memory Bandwidth

In theory, the GeForce RTX 2060 should be 2289% faster than the GeForce 920M overall, because of its greater bandwidth. (explain)

GeForce RTX 2060 344064 MB/sec
GeForce 920M 14400 MB/sec
Difference: 329664 (2289%)

Texel Rate

The GeForce RTX 2060 will be much (about 437%) faster with regards to texture filtering than the GeForce 920M. (explain)

GeForce RTX 2060 163800 Mtexels/sec
GeForce 920M 30528 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 133272 (437%)

Pixel Rate

If using a high screen resolution is important to you, then the GeForce RTX 2060 is the winner, by far. (explain)

GeForce RTX 2060 65520 Mpixels/sec
GeForce 920M 7632 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 57888 (758%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Bandwidth is the max amount of data (counted in MB per second) that can be transported across the external memory interface within a second. It's worked out by multiplying the card's interface width by its memory speed. If the card has DDR RAM, it should be multiplied by 2 again. If it uses DDR5, multiply by 4 instead. The better the bandwidth is, the better the card will be in general. It especially helps with anti-aliasing, HDR and higher screen resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum number of texture map elements (texels) that can be applied per second. This is worked out by multiplying the total texture units by the core clock speed of the chip. The better this number, the better the graphics card will be at handling texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels applied per second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum number of pixels the graphics card can possibly record to its local memory in one second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The figure is worked out by multiplying the amount of ROPs by the the core clock speed. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - also sometimes called Render Output Units) are responsible for filling the screen with pixels (the image). The actual pixel output rate also depends on lots of other factors, most notably the memory bandwidth - the lower the memory bandwidth is, the lower the potential to reach the maximum fill rate.
