GeForce GTX 750 vs Radeon RX 590

Intro

The GeForce GTX 750 uses a 28 nm design. nVidia has clocked the core speed at 1020 MHz. The GDDR5 RAM runs at a frequency of 1250 MHz on this specific card. It features 512 SPUs as well as 32 Texture Address Units and 16 ROPs.

Compare those specifications to the Radeon RX 590, which has a core clock speed of 1469 MHz and a GDDR5 memory speed of 2000 MHz. It also makes use of a 256-bit bus, and uses a 12 nm design. It is comprised of 2304 SPUs, 144 TAUs, and 32 ROPs.

GeForce GTX 750 55 Watts
Radeon RX 590 175 Watts
Difference: 120 Watts (218%)

Memory Bandwidth

Theoretically speaking, the Radeon RX 590 should be quite a bit faster than the GeForce GTX 750 overall. (explain)

Radeon RX 590 262144 MB/sec
GeForce GTX 750 80000 MB/sec
Difference: 182144 (228%)

Texel Rate

The Radeon RX 590 will be quite a bit (approximately 548%) faster with regards to AF than the GeForce GTX 750. (explain)

Radeon RX 590 211536 Mtexels/sec
GeForce GTX 750 32640 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 178896 (548%)

Pixel Rate

If using a high resolution is important to you, then the Radeon RX 590 is superior to the GeForce GTX 750, by a large margin. (explain)

Radeon RX 590 47008 Mpixels/sec
GeForce GTX 750 16320 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 30688 (188%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Memory bandwidth is the largest amount of information (in units of MB per second) that can be transferred past the external memory interface in a second. It is worked out by multiplying the interface width by the speed of its memory. In the case of DDR RAM, it should be multiplied by 2 once again. If DDR5, multiply by ANOTHER 2x. The better the card's memory bandwidth, the faster the card will be in general. It especially helps with AA, High Dynamic Range and high resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum number of texture map elements (texels) that are processed in one second. This number is worked out by multiplying the total texture units by the core speed of the chip. The higher the texel rate, the better the card will be at texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels applied in a second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum amount of pixels the video card could possibly record to the local memory per second - measured in millions of pixels per second. Pixel rate is worked out by multiplying the amount of colour ROPs by the the core speed of the card. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - sometimes also referred to as Render Output Units) are responsible for filling the screen with pixels (the image). The actual pixel fill rate also depends on quite a few other factors, most notably the memory bandwidth - the lower the memory bandwidth is, the lower the ability to get to the max fill rate.
