Radeon HD 6450 (OEM) 1GB vs Radeon RX 550

Intro

The Radeon HD 6450 (OEM) 1GB comes with a GPU core speed of 750 MHz, and the 1024 MB of GDDR5 memory is set to run at 900 MHz through a 64-bit bus. It also features 160 SPUs, 8 Texture Address Units, and 4 Raster Operation Units.

Compare all that to the Radeon RX 550, which features a core clock frequency of 1100 MHz and a GDDR5 memory frequency of 1750 MHz. It also uses a 128-bit memory bus, and makes use of a 14 nm design. It is made up of 512 SPUs, 32 Texture Address Units, and 16 Raster Operation Units.

Radeon RX 550 50 Watts
Difference: 19 Watts (61%)

Memory Bandwidth

The Radeon RX 550 should theoretically perform quite a bit faster than the Radeon HD 6450 (OEM) 1GB overall. (explain)

Radeon RX 550 114688 MB/sec
Radeon HD 6450 (OEM) 1GB 28800 MB/sec
Difference: 85888 (298%)

Texel Rate

The Radeon RX 550 is much (more or less 487%) faster with regards to texture filtering than the Radeon HD 6450 (OEM) 1GB. (explain)

Radeon RX 550 35200 Mtexels/sec
Radeon HD 6450 (OEM) 1GB 6000 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 29200 (487%)

Pixel Rate

If using a high resolution is important to you, then the Radeon RX 550 is superior to the Radeon HD 6450 (OEM) 1GB, by far. (explain)

Radeon RX 550 17600 Mpixels/sec
Radeon HD 6450 (OEM) 1GB 3000 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 14600 (487%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Bandwidth is the largest amount of information (measured in MB per second) that can be transferred past the external memory interface in a second. The number is worked out by multiplying the interface width by the speed of its memory. In the case of DDR memory, it must be multiplied by 2 again. If it uses DDR5, multiply by 4 instead. The better the memory bandwidth, the better the card will be in general. It especially helps with AA, High Dynamic Range and high resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum number of texture map elements (texels) that can be applied in one second. This number is calculated by multiplying the total texture units by the core speed of the chip. The higher this number, the better the card will be at handling texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels applied per second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the most pixels the video card could possibly record to the local memory in one second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The number is worked out by multiplying the number of Raster Operations Pipelines by the the core speed of the card. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - also called Render Output Units) are responsible for drawing the pixels (image) on the screen. The actual pixel output rate is also dependant on many other factors, most notably the memory bandwidth - the lower the memory bandwidth is, the lower the potential to reach the maximum fill rate.
