Radeon HD 4730 vs Radeon R9 M375

Intro

The Radeon HD 4730 features core clock speeds of 700 MHz on the GPU, and 900 MHz on the 512 MB of GDDR5 RAM. It features 640(128x5) SPUs as well as 32 Texture Address Units and 8 Rasterization Operator Units.

Compare those specifications to the Radeon R9 M375, which has core clock speeds of 1015 MHz on the GPU, and 1100 MHz on the 4096 MB of DDR3 RAM. It features 640 SPUs along with 40 Texture Address Units and 16 ROPs.

Power Usage and Theoretical Benchmarks

Memory Bandwidth

Theoretically speaking, the Radeon HD 4730 will be 64% faster than the Radeon R9 M375 in general, because of its greater data rate. (explain)

Radeon HD 4730 57600 MB/sec
Radeon R9 M375 35200 MB/sec
Difference: 22400 (64%)

Texel Rate

The Radeon R9 M375 will be a lot (about 81%) faster with regards to AF than the Radeon HD 4730. (explain)

Radeon R9 M375 40600 Mtexels/sec
Radeon HD 4730 22400 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 18200 (81%)

Pixel Rate

The Radeon R9 M375 will be a lot (approximately 190%) more effective at FSAA than the Radeon HD 4730, and should be capable of handling higher resolutions more effectively. (explain)

Radeon R9 M375 16240 Mpixels/sec
Radeon HD 4730 5600 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 10640 (190%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Bandwidth is the largest amount of information (in units of megabytes per second) that can be moved across the external memory interface in a second. The number is worked out by multiplying the bus width by the speed of its memory. In the case of DDR memory, it should be multiplied by 2 again. If it uses DDR5, multiply by ANOTHER 2x. The higher the bandwidth is, the faster the card will be in general. It especially helps with AA, HDR and high resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum amount of texture map elements (texels) that can be processed in one second. This is calculated by multiplying the total texture units of the card by the core speed of the chip. The better the texel rate, the better the graphics card will be at texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels in a second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum number of pixels that the graphics card can possibly record to the local memory in one second - measured in millions of pixels per second. Pixel rate is calculated by multiplying the amount of colour ROPs by the clock speed of the card. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - sometimes also referred to as Render Output Units) are responsible for drawing the pixels (image) on the screen. The actual pixel fill rate also depends on many other factors, especially the memory bandwidth of the card - the lower the memory bandwidth is, the lower the ability to reach the maximum fill rate.
