Radeon HD 6570 (OEM) 2GB vs Radeon R5 M330

Intro

The Radeon HD 6570 (OEM) 2GB has a core clock speed of 650 MHz and a GDDR5 memory speed of 1000 MHz. It also uses a 128-bit bus, and makes use of a 40 nm design. It is made up of 480 SPUs, 24 Texture Address Units, and 8 Raster Operation Units.

Compare all that to the Radeon R5 M330, which comes with a clock speed of 1030 MHz and a DDR3 memory frequency of 900 MHz. It also makes use of a 64-bit bus, and uses a 28 nm design. It is comprised of 320 SPUs, 20 Texture Address Units, and 8 Raster Operation Units.

Power Usage and Theoretical Benchmarks

Memory Bandwidth

The Radeon HD 6570 (OEM) 2GB should in theory perform a lot faster than the Radeon R5 M330 in general. (explain)

Radeon HD 6570 (OEM) 2GB 64000 MB/sec
Radeon R5 M330 14400 MB/sec
Difference: 49600 (344%)

Texel Rate

The Radeon R5 M330 will be a lot (about 32%) faster with regards to anisotropic filtering than the Radeon HD 6570 (OEM) 2GB. (explain)

Radeon R5 M330 20600 Mtexels/sec
Radeon HD 6570 (OEM) 2GB 15600 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 5000 (32%)

Pixel Rate

If running with a high screen resolution is important to you, then the Radeon R5 M330 is superior to the Radeon HD 6570 (OEM) 2GB, by far. (explain)

Radeon R5 M330 8240 Mpixels/sec
Radeon HD 6570 (OEM) 2GB 5200 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 3040 (58%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Memory bandwidth is the maximum amount of information (in units of MB per second) that can be moved past the external memory interface in a second. The number is worked out by multiplying the interface width by its memory speed. If the card has DDR type RAM, the result should be multiplied by 2 again. If DDR5, multiply by ANOTHER 2x. The better the bandwidth is, the faster the card will be in general. It especially helps with anti-aliasing, High Dynamic Range and higher screen resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum texture map elements (texels) that can be processed in one second. This figure is worked out by multiplying the total texture units of the card by the core clock speed of the chip. The better this number, the better the graphics card will be at texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels processed per second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum number of pixels the video card can possibly record to its local memory in a second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The figure is calculated by multiplying the number of colour ROPs by the the card's clock speed. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - also called Render Output Units) are responsible for filling the screen with pixels (the image). The actual pixel rate also depends on lots of other factors, especially the memory bandwidth - the lower the bandwidth is, the lower the ability to get to the max fill rate.
