GeForce 810M vs Geforce GTX 670

Intro

The GeForce 810M comes with a GPU clock speed of 738 MHz, and the 1024 MB of DDR3 RAM is set to run at 900 MHz through a 64-bit bus. It also features 48 SPUs, 8 Texture Address Units, and 4 ROPs.

Compare those specs to the Geforce GTX 670, which uses a 28 nm design. nVidia has clocked the core frequency at 915 MHz. The GDDR5 memory is set to run at a speed of 1500 MHz on this particular card. It features 1344 SPUs along with 112 Texture Address Units and 32 ROPs.

Power Usage and Theoretical Benchmarks

Power Consumption (Max TDP)

GeForce 810M 15 Watts
Geforce GTX 670 170 Watts
Difference: 155 Watts (1033%)

Memory Bandwidth

Theoretically speaking, the Geforce GTX 670 should perform quite a bit faster than the GeForce 810M in general. (explain)

Geforce GTX 670 192000 MB/sec
GeForce 810M 14400 MB/sec
Difference: 177600 (1233%)

Texel Rate

The Geforce GTX 670 is much (approximately 1636%) more effective at anisotropic filtering than the GeForce 810M. (explain)

Geforce GTX 670 102480 Mtexels/sec
GeForce 810M 5904 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 96576 (1636%)

Pixel Rate

The Geforce GTX 670 will be a lot (approximately 892%) faster with regards to AA than the GeForce 810M, and able to handle higher resolutions without losing too much performance. (explain)

Geforce GTX 670 29280 Mpixels/sec
GeForce 810M 2952 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 26328 (892%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Bandwidth is the maximum amount of information (in units of MB per second) that can be moved across the external memory interface in one second. It's calculated by multiplying the card's interface width by its memory speed. In the case of DDR RAM, it must be multiplied by 2 once again. If it uses DDR5, multiply by ANOTHER 2x. The better the bandwidth is, the faster the card will be in general. It especially helps with AA, High Dynamic Range and higher screen resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum amount of texture map elements (texels) that can be processed per second. This is calculated by multiplying the total texture units by the core speed of the chip. The better the texel rate, the better the video card will be at texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels in a second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum amount of pixels that the graphics card can possibly record to its local memory per second - measured in millions of pixels per second. Pixel rate is worked out by multiplying the amount of colour ROPs by the clock speed of the card. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - also called Render Output Units) are responsible for drawing the pixels (image) on the screen. The actual pixel rate is also dependant on many other factors, most notably the memory bandwidth of the card - the lower the memory bandwidth is, the lower the potential to reach the maximum fill rate.
